¹⁴ Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.

⁵ They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly sanctuary; for when Moses was about to erect the tent,^[a] he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.”

¹¹ And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

¹⁴ But their minds were hardened; for to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. ¹⁵ Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their minds; ¹⁶ but when a man turns to the Lord the veil is removed.

²¹ Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
