⁸ But ^(A)God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ⁹ Much more then, having now been justified ^(B)by His blood, we shall be saved ^(C)from wrath through Him. ¹⁰ For ^(D)if when we were enemies ^(E)we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved ^(F)by His life. ¹¹ And not only that, but we also ^(G)rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Death in Adam, Life in Christ^(H)

¹² Therefore, just as ^(I)through one man sin entered the world, and ^(J)death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— ¹³ (For until the law sin was in the world, but ^(K)sin is not imputed when there is no law. ¹⁴ Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, ^(L)who is a type of Him who was to come. ¹⁵ But the free gift is not like the ^[a]offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded ^(M)to many. ¹⁶ And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgment which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many ^[b]offenses resulted in justification. ¹⁷ For if by the one man’s ^[c]offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)

³ For ^(A)I delivered to you first of all that ^(B)which I also received: that Christ died for our sins ^(C)according to the Scriptures, ⁴ and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day ^(D)according to the Scriptures, ^5 (E)and that He was seen by ^[a]Cephas, then ^(F)by the twelve. ⁶ After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have ^[b]fallen asleep. ⁷ After that He was seen by James, then ^(G)by all the apostles. ^8 (H)Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.

The Last Enemy Destroyed

²⁰ But now ^(A)Christ is risen from the dead, and has become ^(B)the firstfruits of those who have ^[a]fallen asleep. ²¹ For ^(C)since by man came death, ^(D)by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. ²² For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall ^(E)be made alive.

⁴⁵ And so it is written, ^(A)“The first man Adam became a living being.” ^(B)The last Adam became ^(C)a life-giving spirit.

⁴⁶ However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. ^47 (D)The first man was of the earth, ^(E)made^[a] of dust; the second Man is ^[b]the Lord ^(F)from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the ^[c]man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; ^(G)and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. ⁴⁹ And ^(H)as we have borne the image of the man of dust, ^(I)we^[d] shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
