¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God. ²⁰ For ^(D)by works of the law no human being^[a] will be justified in his sight, since ^(E)through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

²¹ But now ^(F)the righteousness of God ^(G)has been manifested apart from the law, although ^(H)the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— ²² the righteousness of God ^(I)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. ^(J)For there is no distinction: ²³ for ^(K)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ^24 (L)and are justified ^(M)by his grace as a gift, ^(N)through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ whom God ^(O)put forward as ^(P)a propitiation ^(Q)by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in ^(R)his divine forbearance he had passed over ^(S)former sins. ²⁶ It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

^27 (T)Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. ²⁸ For we hold that one is justified by faith ^(U)apart from works of the law.

⁸ For ^(A)by grace you have been saved ^(B)through faith. And this is ^(C)not your own doing; ^(D)it is the gift of God,

Stand Firm

¹³ But ^(A)we ought always to give thanks to God for you, ^(B)brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you ^(C)as the firstfruits^{[a] (D)}to be saved, ^(E)through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.

⁴ But when ^(A)the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, ⁵ he saved us, ^(B)not because of works done by us in righteousness, but ^(C)according to his own mercy, by ^(D)the washing of regeneration and ^(E)renewal of the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom he ^(F)poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, ⁷ so that ^(G)being justified by his grace we might become ^(H)heirs ^(I)according to the hope of eternal life. ⁸ The saying is ^(J)trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful ^(K)to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.

^8 (A)Though you have not seen him, you love him. ^(B)Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, ⁹ obtaining ^(C)the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
