2 Nếu bạn nghĩ rằng mình có thể lên án người khác, thì bạn lầm. Khi lên án người khác là tự lên án mình, vì chính mình cũng làm như họ. 2 Thượng Đế lên án những người làm như thế và chúng ta biết phán quyết của Ngài là công bằng. 3 Bạn lên án những người phạm tội, mà chính mình cũng phạm tội như họ. Bạn tưởng sẽ thoát khỏi sự trừng phạt của Thượng Đế sao? 4 Ngài rất nhân từ và kiên nhẫn, chờ đợi bạn thay đổi, nhưng bạn không đếm xỉa gì đến lòng nhân từ Ngài. Bạn không biết rằng Thượng Đế nhân từ cốt để cho bạn ăn năn. 5 Nhưng bạn ương ngạnh, không chịu thay đổi, cho nên bạn sẽ rước lấy sự trừng phạt nặng nề hơn, trong ngày Thượng Đế nổi giận. Vào ngày ấy, mọi người sẽ thấy sự xét xử công bình của Ngài. 6 Thượng Đế sẽ thưởng phạt mỗi người theo việc họ đã làm. 7 Một số người luôn làm lành, sống cho vinh hiển của Thượng Đế, cho danh dự và những gì bất diệt. Ngài sẽ ban cho họ sự sống đời đời. 8 Còn những kẻ sống ích kỷ, không vâng theo sự thật mà đi theo điều ác, thì Thượng Đế sẽ giáng trừng phạt và cơn giận của Ngài. 9 Ngài sẽ mang khốn khổ đến cho những kẻ làm ác—trước là người Do-thái, sau là cho những người không phải Do-thái. 10 Nhưng Ngài sẽ ban vinh dự và bình an cho những người làm lành—trước là người Do-thái sau là những người không phải Do-thái. 11 Vì Thượng Đế đối xử mọi người như nhau.
12 Ai không có luật pháp mà phạm tội sẽ phải chết, dù không có luật pháp. Cũng thế, những người có luật pháp mà phạm tội thì sẽ bị luật pháp xét xử. 13 Chỉ nghe luật pháp suông thôi, không thể nào giúp người ta hòa thuận lại với Thượng Đế đâu. Người nào vâng theo luật pháp mới hòa thuận lại với Ngài được. 14 Những người không phải Do-thái, dù không có luật pháp, nhưng nếu do bản chất tự nhiên làm theo những điều luật pháp qui định, thì những điều ấy là luật pháp của họ rồi. 15 Họ cho thấy rằng, tự lòng mình đã biết phân biệt phải quấy theo như luật pháp qui định. Họ chứng tỏ điều ấy qua lương tâm. Lương tâm có khi bảo rằng mình làm đúng, có khi bảo rằng mình làm sai. 16 Việc ấy sẽ xảy đến trong ngày mà Thượng Đế, qua Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu, sẽ xét xử những tâm tư thầm kín của con người. Đó là điều dạy dỗ của Tin Mừng mà tôi rao giảng.
Người Do-thái và luật pháp
17 Còn bạn thì sao? Bạn tự cho mình là người Do-thái. Bạn tin luật pháp Mô-se và khoe rằng mình sống gần Thượng Đế. 18 Bạn biết Ngài muốn bạn làm gì và điều gì là hệ trọng vì bạn học biết luật pháp. 19 Bạn tự cho mình là người dẫn đường kẻ mù, ánh sáng cho kẻ đi trong tối tăm. 20 Bạn tự cho mình có thể chỉ bảo điều phải cho kẻ ngu, và dạy những kẻ dốt nát. Vì bạn có luật pháp, nên bạn nghĩ mình biết mọi thứ và có sự thật theo mình. 21 Bạn dạy người khác mà không dạy bản thân mình sao? Bạn dạy kẻ khác đừng ăn cắp mà chính mình lại ăn cắp. 22 Bạn bảo kẻ khác không nên phạm tội ngoại tình mà chính mình lại phạm tội ấy. Bạn ghét thần tượng, mà lại đánh cắp hình tượng trong đền thờ. 23 Bạn khoe khoang là biết luật Thượng Đế, nhưng lại làm nhục danh Ngài bằng cách phạm luật ấy, 24 thật đúng như Thánh Kinh chép, “Vì ngươi mà dân ngoại xúc phạm đến danh CHÚA.” [a]
25 Nếu bạn tuân giữ luật pháp, thì phép cắt dương bì có ý nghĩa. Còn nếu bạn phạm luật, thì cắt dương bì cũng như không. 26 Những người không phải Do-thái vốn không chịu phép cắt dương bì, nhưng nếu họ làm theo điều luật pháp dạy bảo, thì xem như họ đã chịu phép ấy rồi. 27 Còn bạn là người Do-thái có luật pháp viết thành chữ và có phép cắt dương bì, nhưng bạn lại phạm luật. Cho nên những người không chịu phép cắt dương bì về phần thể xác, mà tuân theo luật pháp, sẽ kết án bạn.
28 Họ có thể làm như thế được là vì nếu một người chỉ có cái vỏ Do-thái về phần xác mà thôi thì không phải là người Do-thái thật; phép cắt dương bì [b] thật không phải chỉ có bề ngoài thân thể thôi đâu. 29 Người Do-thái thật là người Do-thái bên trong lòng; phép cắt dương bì thật là do Thánh Linh làm trong lòng, chứ không phải qua luật pháp viết thành chữ. Người như thế được Thượng Đế ca ngợi, chứ không phải con người.

God’s Righteous Judgment
2 You, therefore, have no excuse,(A) you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.(B) 2 Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches(C) of his kindness,(D) forbearance(E) and patience,(F) not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?(G)
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath(H), when his righteous judgment(I) will be revealed. 6 God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”[a](J) 7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor(K) and immortality,(L) he will give eternal life.(M) 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil,(N) there will be wrath and anger.(O) 9 There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil:(P) first for the Jew, then for the Gentile;(Q) 10 but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.(R) 11 For God does not show favoritism.(S)
12 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law(T) will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey(U) the law who will be declared righteous. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law,(V) they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets(W) through Jesus Christ,(X) as my gospel(Y) declares.
The Jews and the Law
17 Now you, if you call yourself a Jew; if you rely on the law and boast in God;(Z) 18 if you know his will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the law; 19 if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those who are in the dark, 20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of little children, because you have in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— 21 you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal?(AA) 22 You who say that people should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?(AB) 23 You who boast in the law,(AC) do you dishonor God by breaking the law? 24 As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”[b](AD)
25 Circumcision has value if you observe the law,(AE) but if you break the law, you have become as though you had not been circumcised.(AF) 26 So then, if those who are not circumcised keep the law’s requirements,(AG) will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?(AH) 27 The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you(AI) who, even though you have the[c] written code and circumcision, are a lawbreaker.
28 A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly,(AJ) nor is circumcision merely outward and physical.(AK) 29 No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart,(AL) by the Spirit,(AM) not by the written code.(AN) Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.(AO)

2 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
25 For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
