¹¹ Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you ^(A)to wake from sleep. ^(B)For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

^7 (A)The end of all things is at hand; therefore ^(B)be self-controlled and sober-minded ^(C)for the sake of your prayers.

⁵ For you are all ^(A)children^[a] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. ⁶ So then ^(B)let us not sleep, as others do, but let us ^(C)keep awake and ^(D)be sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, ^(E)are drunk at night. ⁸ But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, ^(F)having put on the breastplate of ^(G)faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.

¹⁴ for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says,

^34 (A)Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For ^(B)some have no knowledge of God. ^(C)I say this to your shame.

^35 (A)Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, ^(B)in the evening, or ^(C)at midnight, or ^(D)when the rooster crows,^[a] or ^(E)in the morning— ³⁶ lest ^(F)he come suddenly and ^(G)find you asleep. ³⁷ And what I say to you I say to all: ^(H)Stay awake.”

The Day of the Lord

5 Now concerning ^(A)the times and the seasons, brothers,^{[a] (B)}you have no need to have anything written to you. ² For you yourselves are fully aware that ^(C)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(D)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(E)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

⁴² Therefore, ^(A)stay awake, for you do not know on what day ^(B)your Lord is coming. ^43 (C)But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night ^(D)the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ^(E)ready, for ^(F)the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

¹³ But according to his promise we are waiting for ^(A)new heavens and a new earth ^(B)in which righteousness dwells.

Final Words

^14 (C)Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him ^(D)without spot or ^(E)blemish, and ^(F)at peace. ¹⁵ And count ^(G)the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as ^(H)our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you ^(I)according to the wisdom given him,
