“I will take revenge;
    I will pay them back,”^[a]
    says the Lord.

²⁹ And don’t say, “Now I can pay them back for what they’ve done to me!
    I’ll get even with them!”

³⁵ I will take revenge; I will pay them back.
    In due time their feet will slip.
Their day of disaster will arrive,
    and their destiny will overtake them.’

“I will take revenge.
    I will pay them back.”^[a]

“The Lord will judge his own people.”^[b]

²² Don’t say, “I will get even for this wrong.”
    Wait for the Lord to handle the matter.

⁴³ “Rejoice with him, you heavens,
    and let all of God’s angels worship him.^[a]
Rejoice with his people, you Gentiles,
    and let all the angels be strengthened in him.^[b]
For he will avenge the blood of his children^[c];
    he will take revenge against his enemies.
He will repay those who hate him^[d]
    and cleanse his people’s land.”
