12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.(A)
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good(B) to bring about my death,(C) so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,(D) sold(E) as a slave to sin.(F) 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.(G) 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.(H) 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.(I) 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a](J) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.(K) 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.(L)
21 So I find this law at work:(M) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(N) I delight in God’s law;(O) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(P) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(Q) at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?(R) 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!(S)
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,(T) but in my sinful nature[b] a slave to the law of sin.(U)

2 Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
3 I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations.
4 For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds.
5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth;
6 That thy beloved may be delivered: save with thy right hand, and answer me.
7 God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
8 Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
9 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe; over Philistia will I triumph.
10 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
11 Wilt not thou, O God, who hast cast us off? and wilt not thou, O God, go forth with our hosts?
12 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

1 My heart, O God, is steadfast;(C)
I will sing(D) and make music with all my soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre!(E)
I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing of you among the peoples.
4 For great is your love,(F) higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness(G) reaches to the skies.(H)
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;(I)
let your glory be over all the earth.(J)
6 Save us and help us with your right hand,(K)
that those you love may be delivered.
7 God has spoken(L) from his sanctuary:(M)
“In triumph I will parcel out Shechem(N)
and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.(O)
8 Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
Ephraim is my helmet,
Judah(P) is my scepter.
9 Moab(Q) is my washbasin,
on Edom(R) I toss my sandal;
over Philistia(S) I shout in triumph.”
10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
and no longer go out with our armies?(T)
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
for human help is worthless.(U)
13 With God we will gain the victory,
and he will trample down(V) our enemies.
