For (A)if we have been united with him in (B)a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that (C)our old self[a] (D)was crucified with him in order that (E)the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For (F)one who has died (G)has been set free[b] from sin. Now (H)if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that (I)Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; (J)death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, (K)once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves (L)dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

If we were united together in a death like his, we will also be united together in a resurrection like his. This is what we know: the person that we used to be was crucified with him in order to get rid of the corpse that had been controlled by sin. That way we wouldn’t be slaves to sin anymore, because a person who has died has been freed from sin’s power. But if we died with Christ, we have faith that we will also live with him. We know that Christ has been raised from the dead and he will never die again. Death no longer has power over him. 10 He died to sin once and for all with his death, but he lives for God with his life. 11 In the same way, you also should consider yourselves dead to sin but alive for God in Christ Jesus.
