3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

3 What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[a](A)
4 Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift(B) but as an obligation. 5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.(C) 6 David says the same thing when he speaks of the blessedness of the one to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
