¹³For ^(A)it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.

¹³For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey^(A) the law who will be declared righteous.

⁴By no means! ^(A)Let God be true though ^(B)every one were a liar, as it is written,

^(C)“That you may be justified in your words,
and prevail when you ^(D)are judged.”

⁴Not at all! Let God be true,^(A) and every human being a liar.^(B) As it is written:

“So that you may be proved right when you speak
and prevail when you judge.”^[a]^(C)
