17 But if (A)some of the branches were broken off, and you, (B)although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root[a] of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you (C)stand fast through faith. So (D)do not become proud, but (E)fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. 22 Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, (F)provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise (G)you too will be cut off. 23 And (H)even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.

The Mystery of Israel's Salvation

25 (I)Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers:[b] (J)a partial hardening has come upon Israel, (K)until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written,

(L)“The Deliverer will come (M)from Zion,
    he will banish ungodliness from Jacob”;
27 “and this will be my (N)covenant with them
    (O)when I take away their sins.”

28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are (P)beloved for the sake of their forefathers. 29 For the gifts and (Q)the calling of God are irrevocable. 30 For just as (R)you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now[c] receive mercy. 32 For God (S)has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.

33 Oh, the depth of the riches and (T)wisdom and knowledge of God! (U)How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

34 “For (V)who has known the mind of the Lord,
    or (W)who has been his counselor?”
35 “Or (X)who has given a gift to him
    that he might be repaid?”

36 For (Y)from him and through him and to him are all things. (Z)To him be glory forever. Amen.

A Living Sacrifice

12 (AA)I appeal to you therefore, brothers,[d] by the mercies of God, (AB)to present your bodies (AC)as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.[e] (AD)Do not be conformed to this world,[f] but be transformed by (AE)the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may (AF)discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.[g]

17 If some of the branches have been broken off,(A) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others(B) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.(C) 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.(D) Do not be arrogant,(E) but tremble.(F) 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

22 Consider therefore the kindness(G) and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue(H) in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.(I) 23 And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.(J) 24 After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree,(K) how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!

All Israel Will Be Saved

25 I do not want you to be ignorant(L) of this mystery,(M) brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited:(N) Israel has experienced a hardening(O) in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,(P) 26 and in this way[a] all Israel will be saved.(Q) As it is written:

“The deliverer will come from Zion;
    he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is[b] my covenant with them
    when I take away their sins.”[c](R)

28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies(S) for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs,(T) 29 for God’s gifts and his call(U) are irrevocable.(V) 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient(W) to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[d] receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience(X) so that he may have mercy on them all.

Doxology

33 Oh, the depth of the riches(Y) of the wisdom and[e] knowledge of God!(Z)
    How unsearchable his judgments,
    and his paths beyond tracing out!(AA)
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
    Or who has been his counselor?”[f](AB)
35 “Who has ever given to God,

36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.(AD)
    To him be the glory forever! Amen.(AE)

A Living Sacrifice

12 Therefore, I urge you,(AF) brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,(AG) holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform(AH) to the pattern of this world,(AI) but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.(AJ) Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is(AK)—his good, pleasing(AL) and perfect will.
