Romans 10:18-11:10
English Standard Version
18 But I ask, have they not heard? Indeed they have, for
19 But I ask, did Israel not understand? First Moses says,
(C)“I will (D)make you jealous of those who are not a nation;
with a (E)foolish nation I will make you angry.”
20 Then Isaiah is so bold as to say,
(F)“I have been found by those who did not seek me;
I have shown myself to those who did not ask for me.”
21 But of Israel he says, (G)“All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”
The Remnant of Israel
11 I ask, then, (H)has God rejected his people? By no means! For (I)I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham,[a] a member of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 (J)God has not rejected his people whom he (K)foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel? 3 (L)“Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life.” 4 But what is God's reply to him? (M)“I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 So too at the present time there is (N)a remnant, chosen by grace. 6 (O)But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
7 What then? (P)Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest (Q)were hardened, 8 as it is written,
(R)“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
(S)eyes that would not see
and ears that would not hear,
down to this very day.”
9 And David says,
(T)“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
10 let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see,
and bend their backs forever.”

18 But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did:
19 Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,
“I will make you envious(B) by those who are not a nation;
I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.”[b](C)
20 And Isaiah boldly says,
“I was found by those who did not seek me;
I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.”[c](D)
21 But concerning Israel he says,
The Remnant of Israel
11 I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means!(F) I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham,(G) from the tribe of Benjamin.(H) 2 God did not reject his people,(I) whom he foreknew.(J) Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: 3 “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”[e]?(K) 4 And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”[f](L) 5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant(M) chosen by grace.(N) 6 And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works;(O) if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
7 What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain.(P) The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,(Q) 8 as it is written:
“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
eyes that could not see
and ears that could not hear,(R)
to this very day.”[g](S)
