El respeto a las autoridades
13 Todos deben someterse a las autoridades públicas, pues no hay autoridad que Dios no haya dispuesto, así que las que existen fueron establecidas por él. 2 Por lo tanto, todo el que se opone a la autoridad se rebela contra lo que Dios ha instituido. Los que así proceden recibirán castigo. 3 Porque los gobernantes no están para infundir terror a los que hacen lo bueno, sino a los que hacen lo malo. ¿Quieres librarte del miedo a la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás su aprobación, 4 pues está al servicio de Dios para tu bien. Pero, si haces lo malo, entonces debes tener miedo. No en vano lleva la espada, pues está al servicio de Dios para impartir justicia y castigar al malhechor. 5 Así que es necesario someterse a las autoridades no solo para evitar el castigo, sino también por razones de conciencia.
6 Por eso mismo pagáis impuestos, pues las autoridades están al servicio de Dios, dedicadas precisamente a gobernar. 7 Pagad a cada uno lo que le corresponda: si debéis impuestos, pagad los impuestos; si debéis contribuciones, pagad las contribuciones; al que debáis respeto, mostradle respeto; al que debáis honor, rendidle honor.
La responsabilidad hacia los demás
8 No tengáis deudas pendientes con nadie, a no ser la de amaros unos a otros. De hecho, quien ama al prójimo ha cumplido la ley. 9 Porque los mandamientos que dicen: «No cometas adulterio», «No mates», «No robes», «No codicies»,[a] y todos los demás mandamientos, se resumen en este precepto: «Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo».[b] 10 El amor no perjudica al prójimo. Así que el amor es el cumplimiento de la ley.
11 Haced todo esto estando conscientes del tiempo en que vivimos. Ya es hora de que despertéis del sueño, pues nuestra salvación está ahora más cerca que cuando inicialmente creímos. 12 La noche está muy avanzada y ya se acerca el día. Por eso, dejemos a un lado las obras de la oscuridad y pongámonos la armadura de la luz. 13 Vivamos decentemente, como a la luz del día, no en orgías y borracheras, ni en inmoralidad sexual y libertinaje, ni en disensiones y envidias. 14 Más bien, revestíos del Señor Jesucristo, y no os preocupéis por satisfacer los deseos de la naturaleza pecaminosa.

13 Кожен має підкорятися верховній владі, бо існуюча влада встановлена й призначена Богом. 2 Отже, хто опирається владі, той протидіє тому, що було наказано Богом. Ті ж, хто чинить так, будуть засуджені. 3 Правителі викликають страх не в тих, хто чинить добро, а в тих, хто чинить зло. Хочеш не боятися влади? То чини добро і матимеш похвалу від влади.
4 Так, володарі—слуги Божі, які працюють тобі на благо. Та якщо чинитимеш зло, бійся, бо в їхній владі покарати тебе й віддати на смерть. Адже вони не даремно носять меч. Вони—слуги Божі, месники, які несуть гнів Божий проти тих, хто чинить зло.
5 Через те треба коритися не лише зі страху перед покаранням Божим, а й з власного сумління. 6 Ось чому ви податки платите, адже влада—то слуги Божі. Вони ненастанно дбають про все те, що ми згадували щойно. 7 Віддайте кожному належне. Заплатіть податки, кому мусите їх сплатити. Віддайте податки збирачам податків, повагу—тим, кого ви повинні поважати, а пошану—кого повинні шанувати.
8 Нікому нічого не будьте винні, крім любові один до одного. Бо хто любить іншого, той дотримується Закону. 9 Кажу я так через те, що заповіді: «Не чини перелюбу», «Не вбий», «Не вкради», «Не зажадай чужого»(A), а також усі інші об’єднуються в одній: «Люби ближнього[a] свого, як самого себе»(B). 10 Любов не чинить зла ближньому, ось чому це і є виконанням Закону.
11 Виконуйте все це, бо ви знаєте, в який час ми живемо. Ви знаєте, що час прийшов вам прокинутися від сплячки, бо спасіння наше зараз ближче до нас, ніж тоді, коли ми вперше повірили. 12 Ніч уже майже минула, і день наближається. Тож звільнімося від вчинків, що належать темряві. Зодягнімося у зброю світла. 13 Живімо ж пристойно, як люди живуть при денному світлі: не в гульні та пияцтві, не в перелюбі й розпусті, не у сварках та заздрощах. 14 Краще будьмо подібні до Господа нашого Ісуса Христа, і не потураймо нашому гріховному людському єству і його бажанням.

Submission to Governing Authorities
13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities,(A) for there is no authority except that which God has established.(B) The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted,(C) and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended.(D) 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.(E) 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.(F)
6 This is also why you pay taxes,(G) for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes;(H) if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
Love Fulfills the Law
8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law.(I) 9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,”[a](J) and whatever other command there may be, are summed up(K) in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b](L) 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.(M)
The Day Is Near
11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come(N) for you to wake up from your slumber,(O) because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.(P) So let us put aside the deeds of darkness(Q) and put on the armor(R) of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness,(S) not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.(T) 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ,(U) and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.[c](V)

13 Let every soul be (A)subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists (B)the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will [a]bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? (C)Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4 For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 5 Therefore (D)you must be subject, not only because of wrath (E)but also for conscience’ sake. 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. 7 (F)Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Love Your Neighbor(G)

Put on Christ
11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time (L)to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. (M)Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and (N)let us put on the armor of light. 13 (O)Let us walk [c]properly, as in the day, (P)not in revelry and drunkenness, (Q)not in lewdness and lust, (R)not in strife and envy. 14 But (S)put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and (T)make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
