Humble Service in the Body of Christ

³ For by the grace given me^(A) I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.

⁴ For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,^{(A) 5} so in Christ we, though many, form one body,^(B) and each member belongs to all the others. ⁶ We have different gifts,^(C) according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,^(D) then prophesy in accordance with your^[a] faith;^{(E) 7} if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;^{(F) 8} if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;^(G) if it is giving, then give generously;^(H) if it is to lead,^[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

⁸ In the same way, deacons^[a](A) are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine,^(B) and not pursuing dishonest gain. ⁹ They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.^{(C) 10} They must first be tested;^(D) and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

¹¹ In the same way, the women^[b] are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers^(E) but temperate^(F) and trustworthy in everything.

¹² A deacon must be faithful to his wife^(G) and must manage his children and his household well.^{(H) 13} Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Doing Good to All

6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit^(A) should restore^(B) that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth,^(A) comes, he will guide you into all the truth.^(B) He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
