O futuro de Israel
11 Digo, pois: porventura, rejeitou Deus o seu povo? De modo nenhum! Porque também eu sou israelita, da descendência de Abraão, da tribo de Benjamim. 2 Deus não rejeitou o seu povo, que antes conheceu. Ou não sabeis o que a Escritura diz de Elias, como fala a Deus contra Israel, dizendo: 3 Senhor, mataram os teus profetas e derribaram os teus altares; e só eu fiquei, e buscam a minha alma? 4 Mas que lhe diz a resposta divina? Reservei para mim sete mil varões, que não dobraram os joelhos diante de Baal. 5 Assim, pois, também agora neste tempo ficou um resto, segundo a eleição da graça. 6 Mas, se é por graça, já não é pelas obras; de outra maneira, a graça já não é graça. 7 Pois quê? O que Israel buscava não o alcançou; mas os eleitos o alcançaram, e os outros foram endurecidos. 8 Como está escrito: Deus lhes deu espírito de profundo sono: olhos para não verem e ouvidos para não ouvirem, até ao dia de hoje. 9 E Davi diz: Torne-se-lhes a sua mesa em laço, e em armadilha, e em tropeço, por sua retribuição; 10 escureçam-se-lhes os olhos para não verem, e encurvem-se-lhes continuamente as costas.
11 Digo, pois: porventura, tropeçaram, para que caíssem? De modo nenhum! Mas, pela sua queda, veio a salvação aos gentios, para os incitar à emulação. 12 E, se a sua queda é a riqueza do mundo, e a sua diminuição, a riqueza dos gentios, quanto mais a sua plenitude!
13 Porque convosco falo, gentios, que, enquanto for apóstolo dos gentios, glorificarei o meu ministério; 14 para ver se de alguma maneira posso incitar à emulação os da minha carne e salvar alguns deles. 15 Porque, se a sua rejeição é a reconciliação do mundo, qual será a sua admissão, senão a vida dentre os mortos? 16 E, se as primícias são santas, também a massa o é; se a raiz é santa, também os ramos o são. 17 E se alguns dos ramos foram quebrados, e tu, sendo zambujeiro, foste enxertado em lugar deles e feito participante da raiz e da seiva da oliveira, 18 não te glories contra os ramos; e, se contra eles te gloriares, não és tu que sustentas a raiz, mas a raiz a ti. 19 Dirás, pois: Os ramos foram quebrados, para que eu fosse enxertado. 20 Está bem! Pela sua incredulidade foram quebrados, e tu estás em pé pela fé; então, não te ensoberbeças, mas teme. 21 Porque, se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, teme que te não poupe a ti também. 22 Considera, pois, a bondade e a severidade de Deus: para com os que caíram, severidade; mas, para contigo, a benignidade de Deus, se permaneceres na sua benignidade; de outra maneira, também tu serás cortado. 23 E também eles, se não permanecerem na incredulidade, serão enxertados; porque poderoso é Deus para os tornar a enxertar. 24 Porque, se tu foste cortado do natural zambujeiro e, contra a natureza, enxertado na boa oliveira, quanto mais esses, que são naturais, serão enxertados na sua própria oliveira!
25 Porque não quero, irmãos, que ignoreis este segredo (para que não presumais de vós mesmos): que o endurecimento veio em parte sobre Israel, até que a plenitude dos gentios haja entrado. 26 E, assim, todo o Israel será salvo, como está escrito: De Sião virá o Libertador, e desviará de Jacó as impiedades. 27 E este será o meu concerto com eles, quando eu tirar os seus pecados. 28 Assim que, quanto ao evangelho, são inimigos por causa de vós; mas, quanto à eleição, amados por causa dos pais. 29 Porque os dons e a vocação de Deus são sem arrependimento. 30 Porque assim como vós também, antigamente, fostes desobedientes a Deus, mas, agora, alcançastes misericórdia pela desobediência deles, 31 assim também estes, agora, foram desobedientes, para também alcançarem misericórdia pela misericórdia a vós demonstrada. 32 Porque Deus encerrou a todos debaixo da desobediência, para com todos usar de misericórdia.

33 Ó profundidade das riquezas, tanto da sabedoria, como da ciência de Deus! Quão insondáveis são os seus juízos, e quão inescrutáveis, os seus caminhos! 34 Porque quem compreendeu o intento do Senhor? Ou quem foi seu conselheiro? 35 Ou quem lhe deu primeiro a ele, para que lhe seja recompensado? 36 Porque dele, e por ele, e para ele são todas as coisas; glória, pois, a ele eternamente. Amém!

A misericórdia de Deus para com Israel
11 Então pergunto: Deus rejeitou seu povo, a nação de Israel? Claro que não! Eu mesmo sou israelita, descendente de Abraão e membro da tribo de Benjamim.
2 Não, Deus não rejeitou seu povo, que conheceu de antemão. Vocês sabem o que as Escrituras dizem a esse respeito? O profeta Elias se queixou a Deus sobre o povo de Israel, dizendo: 3 “Senhor, eles mataram teus profetas e derrubaram teus altares. Sou o único que restou, e agora também procuram me matar”.[a]
4 E vocês se lembram da resposta de Deus? Ele disse: “Ainda tenho outros sete mil que jamais se prostraram diante de Baal”.[b]
5 O mesmo acontece hoje, pois uns poucos do povo de Israel permaneceram fiéis,[c] escolhidos pela graça de Deus. 6 E, se a escolha se dá pela graça de Deus, então não se baseia nas obras deles, pois nesse caso a graça deixaria de ser o que verdadeiramente é, ou seja, gratuita e imerecida.
7 Portanto, a situação é esta: a maioria do povo de Israel não encontrou o que tanto buscava, mas uns poucos, aqueles que Deus havia escolhido, o encontraram, enquanto o coração dos demais foi endurecido. 8 Como dizem as Escrituras:
“Deus os fez cair em sono profundo.
Até hoje, fechou-lhes os olhos para que não vejam,
e tapou-lhes os ouvidos para que não ouçam”.[d]
9 Da mesma forma, Davi disse:
“Que sua mesa farta se transforme em laço,
em armadilha que os faça pensar que tudo vai bem.
Que seus privilégios os façam tropeçar,
e que recebam o que merecem.
10 Que seus olhos se escureçam para que não vejam,
e que suas costas fiquem encurvadas para sempre”.[e]
11 Acaso o povo de Deus tropeçou e caiu sem possibilidade de se levantar? Claro que não! Foram desobedientes e, por isso, Deus tornou a salvação acessível aos gentios, para que seu próprio povo sentisse ciúme. 12 Se os gentios foram enriquecidos porque os israelitas fracassaram ao rejeitar a salvação que Deus lhes oferece, imaginem como será maior a bênção para o mundo quando Israel for plenamente restaurado!
13 Dirijo-me especialmente a vocês, gentios. E, uma vez que fui designado apóstolo aos gentios, enfatizo isso 14 porque desejo que, de algum modo, o povo de Israel sinta ciúme e assim eu possa levar alguns deles à salvação. 15 Pois, se a rejeição deles possibilitou que o resto do mundo se reconciliasse com Deus, a aceitação será ainda mais maravilhosa. Será vida para os que estavam mortos!
16 Se a parte da massa entregue como oferta é santa, então toda ela é santa. E, se as raízes da árvore são santas, os ramos também o serão. 17 Mas alguns desses ramos, alguns do povo de Israel, foram cortados. E vocês, gentios, que eram ramos de uma oliveira brava, foram enxertados na árvore. Agora, portanto, participam do alimento nutritivo que vem da raiz da oliveira especial de Deus. 18 No entanto, não devem se orgulhar de terem sido enxertados no lugar dos ramos que foram cortados, pois é a raiz que sustenta o ramo, e não o contrário.
19 Talvez digam: “Esses ramos foram cortados para abrir espaço para nós”. 20 É verdade, mas lembrem-se de que esses ramos foram cortados porque não creram e que vocês estão ali porque creem. Portanto, não se orgulhem, mas temam o que poderia acontecer. 21 Pois, se Deus não poupou os ramos naturais, também não poupará[f] vocês.
22 Observem como Deus é, ao mesmo tempo, bondoso e severo. É severo com os que lhe desobedecem, mas é bondoso com vocês, desde que continuem a confiar em sua bondade. Mas, se deixarem de confiar, também serão cortados. 23 E, se o povo de Israel abandonar sua incredulidade, será enxertado novamente, pois Deus tem poder para enxertá-los de volta na árvore. 24 Vocês eram, por natureza, o ramo cortado de uma oliveira brava. Portanto, se Deus se mostrou disposto a fazer algo contrário à natureza ao enxertá-los em sua árvore cultivada, estará ainda mais disposto a enxertar os ramos naturais de volta na árvore da qual eles fazem parte.
A misericórdia de Deus é para todos
25 Irmãos, quero que vocês entendam este mistério para que não se orgulhem de si mesmos. Alguns do povo de Israel têm o coração endurecido, mas isso durará apenas até que o tempo dos gentios se complete. 26 E assim todo o Israel será salvo. Como dizem as Escrituras:
“O libertador virá de Sião
e afastará Israel[g] da impiedade.
27 E esta é minha aliança com eles:
eu removerei seus pecados”.[h]
28 Muitos do povo de Israel agora são inimigos das boas-novas, e isso beneficia vocês, gentios. No entanto, porque ele escolheu seus patriarcas, eles ainda são o povo que Deus ama. 29 Pois as bênçãos de Deus e o seu chamado jamais podem ser anulados. 30 Em outros tempos, vocês, gentios, foram rebeldes contra Deus, mas agora, por causa da desobediência deles, vocês receberam misericórdia. 31 Agora eles são os rebeldes, e Deus foi misericordioso com vocês, para que eles também participem[i] da misericórdia dele. 32 Pois Deus colocou a todos debaixo da desobediência para que de todos tivesse misericórdia.
33 Como são grandes as riquezas, a sabedoria e o conhecimento de Deus! É impossível entendermos suas decisões e seus caminhos!
34 “Pois quem conhece os pensamentos do Senhor?
Quem sabe o suficiente para aconselhá-lo?”[j]
35 “Quem lhe deu primeiro alguma coisa,
para que ele precise depois retribuir?”[k]
36 Pois todas as coisas vêm dele, existem por meio dele e são para ele. A ele seja toda a glória para sempre! Amém.

Israel’s Rejection Not Total
11 I say then, (A)has God cast away His people? (B)Certainly not! For (C)I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not cast away His people whom (D)He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, 3 (E)“Lord, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? 4 But what does the divine response say to him? (F)“I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” 5 (G)Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace. 6 And (H)if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. [a]But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.
7 What then? (I)Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were (J)blinded. 8 Just as it is written:
(K)“God has given them a spirit of stupor,
(L)Eyes that they should not see
And ears that they should not hear,
To this very day.”
9 And David says:
(M)“Let their table become a snare and a trap,
A stumbling block and a recompense to them.
10 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see,
And bow down their back always.”
Israel’s Rejection Not Final
11 I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But (N)through their [b]fall, to provoke them to (O)jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. 12 Now if their [c]fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness!
13 For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as (P)I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14 if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and (Q)save some of them. 15 For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be (R)but life from the dead?
16 For if (S)the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. 17 And if (T)some of the branches were broken off, (U)and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and [d]fatness of the olive tree, 18 (V)do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you.
19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” 20 Well said. Because of (W)unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. 22 Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, [e]goodness, (X)if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise (Y)you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, (Z)if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be (AA)wise in your own [f]opinion, that (AB)blindness in part has happened to Israel (AC)until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be [g]saved, as it is written:
(AD)“The Deliverer will come out of Zion,
And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For (AE)this is My covenant with them,
When I take away their sins.”
28 Concerning the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but concerning the election they are (AF)beloved for the sake of the fathers. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are (AG)irrevocable. 30 For as you (AH)were once disobedient to God, yet have now obtained mercy through their disobedience, 31 even so these also have now been disobedient, that through the mercy shown you they also may obtain mercy. 32 For God has [h]committed them (AI)all to disobedience, that He might have mercy on all.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
34 “For who has known the (AJ)mind of the Lord?
Or (AK)who has become His counselor?”
35 “Or(AL) who has first given to Him
And it shall be repaid to him?”
36 For (AM)of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, (AN)to whom be glory forever. Amen.

2 God hath not cast away his people which he foreknew. Wot ye not what the scripture saith of Elias? how he maketh intercession to God against Israel saying,
3 Lord, they have killed thy prophets, and digged down thine altars; and I am left alone, and they seek my life.
4 But what saith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousand men, who have not bowed the knee to the image of Baal.

31 Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy.
32 For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?
35 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again?
36 For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.
