10 Hermanos, el deseo de mi corazón y mi oración a Dios por ellos[a] es para su salvación. 2 Porque yo testifico a su favor de que tienen celo de Dios(A), pero no conforme a un pleno conocimiento. 3 Pues desconociendo la justicia de Dios y procurando establecer la suya propia(B), no se sometieron a la justicia de Dios(C). 4 Porque Cristo es el fin[b] de la ley para justicia a todo aquel que cree(D).
Cómo ser salvo
5 Pues Moisés escribe que el hombre que practica la justicia que es de la ley, vivirá por ella(E). 6 Pero la justicia que es de la fe(F), dice así: «No digas en tu corazón: “¿Quién subirá al cielo(G)?”. Esto es, para hacer bajar a Cristo, 7 o “¿Quién descenderá al abismo(H)?”. Esto es, para subir a Cristo de entre los muertos(I)».
8 Pero, ¿qué dice? «Cerca de ti está la palabra, en tu boca y en tu corazón(J)», es decir, la palabra de fe que predicamos: 9 que si confiesas con tu boca a Jesús por Señor(K), y crees en tu corazón que Dios lo resucitó de entre los muertos, serás salvo(L). 10 Porque con el corazón se cree para justicia, y con la boca se confiesa para salvación.
11 Pues la Escritura dice: «Todo el que cree en Él no será avergonzado(M)». 12 Porque no hay distinción entre judío y griego(N), pues el mismo Señor es Señor de todos(O), abundando en riquezas para todos los que le invocan; 13 porque: «Todo aquel que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo(P)».
14 ¿Cómo, pues, invocarán a Aquel en quien no han creído? ¿Y cómo creerán en Aquel de[c] quien no han oído(Q)? ¿Y cómo oirán sin haber quien les predique(R)? 15 ¿Y cómo predicarán si no son enviados? Tal como está escrito: «¡Cuán hermosos son los pies[d] de los que anuncian el evangelio del bien[e](S)!».
Israel rechaza el evangelio
16 Sin embargo, no todos hicieron caso al evangelio(T), porque Isaías dice: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído a nuestro anuncio(U)?». 17 Así que la fe viene del oír(V), y el oír, por la palabra de Cristo(W).
18 Pero yo digo, ¿acaso nunca han oído? Ciertamente que sí:
19 Y añado[g]: ¿Acaso Israel no sabía? En primer lugar, Moisés dice:
«Yo los provocaré a celos con un pueblo que no es pueblo;
Con un pueblo sin entendimiento los provocaré a ira(Y)».
20 E Isaías es muy osado, y dice:
21 Pero en cuanto a Israel, dice: «Todo el día he extendido Mis manos a un pueblo desobediente y rebelde(AA)».

Israel y el evangelio
10 Hermanos, el deseo de mi corazón y mi oración a Dios por los israelitas es que alcancen la salvación. 2 En su favor puedo decir que tienen un gran deseo de servir a Dios; sólo que ese deseo no está basado en el verdadero conocimiento. 3 Pues no reconocen que es Dios quien hace justos a los hombres, y pretenden ser justos por sí mismos; y así no se han sometido a lo que Dios estableció para hacernos justos. 4 Porque la ley llega a su término con Cristo, y así todos por la fe pueden llegar a ser justos.
5 De la justicia basada en la ley, Moisés escribió esto: «La persona que cumpla la ley, vivirá por ella.» 6 Pero de la justicia basada en la fe, se dice: «No pienses: “¿Quién subirá al cielo?” —esto es, para hacer que Cristo baje—; 7 o “¿Quién bajará al abismo?”» —esto es, para hacer que Cristo suba de entre los muertos. 8 ¿Qué es, pues, lo que dice?: «La palabra está cerca de ti, en tu boca y en tu corazón.» Esta palabra es el mensaje de fe que predicamos. 9 Si con tu boca reconoces a Jesús como Señor, y con tu corazón crees que Dios lo resucitó, alcanzarás la salvación. 10 Pues con el corazón se cree para alcanzar la justicia, y con la boca se reconoce a Jesucristo para alcanzar la salvación.
11 La Escritura dice: «El que confíe en él, no quedará defraudado.» 12 No hay diferencia entre los judíos y los no judíos; pues el mismo Señor es Señor de todos, y da con abundancia a todos los que lo invocan. 13 Porque esto es lo que dice: «Todos los que invoquen el nombre del Señor, alcanzarán la salvación.» 14 Pero ¿cómo van a invocarlo, si no han creído en él? ¿Y cómo van a creer en él, si no han oído hablar de él? ¿Y cómo van a oír, si no hay quien les anuncie el mensaje? 15 ¿Y cómo van a anunciar el mensaje, si no son enviados? Como dice la Escritura: «¡Qué hermosa es la llegada de los que traen buenas noticias!»
16 Pero no todos han aceptado el evangelio. Es como dice Isaías: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído al oír nuestro mensaje?» 17 Así pues, la fe nace al oír el mensaje, y el mensaje viene de la palabra de Cristo.
18 Pero yo pregunto: ¿Será tal vez que no oyeron el mensaje? ¡Claro que lo oyeron! Porque la Escritura dice:
«La voz de ellos salió por toda la tierra,
y hasta los últimos rincones del mundo llegaron sus palabras.»
19 Y vuelvo a preguntar: ¿Será que los de Israel no se han dado cuenta? En primer lugar, Moisés dice:
«Yo los pondré a ustedes celosos
de un pueblo que no es pueblo;
los haré enojar contra un pueblo
que no quiere entender.»
20 Luego, Isaías se atreve a decir:
«Los que no me buscaban, me encontraron;
y me mostré a los que no preguntaban por mí.»
21 Y al hablar de los israelitas, Isaías dice: «Todo el día extendí mis manos a un pueblo desobediente y rebelde.»
Romans 10
The Voice
10 My brothers and sisters, I pray constantly to God for the salvation of my people; it is the deep desire of my heart. 2 What I can say about them is that they are enthusiastic about God, but that won’t lead them to Him because their zeal is not based on true knowledge. 3 In their ignorance about how God is working to make things right, they have been trying to establish their own right standing with God through the law. But they are not operating under God’s saving, restorative justice. 4 You see, God’s purpose for the law reaches its climax when the Anointed One arrives; now all who trust in Him can have their lives made right with God.
God’s plan to restore the world disfigured by sin and death reaches its climax with the resurrection of Jesus. When the King enters, all the prophecies, all the hopes, all the longings find in Him their true fulfillment. There may have been earlier fulfillments; but these are only partial fulfillments, signposts along the way to God’s true goal. The goal has been the restoration of people to a holy God. With Jesus, we find the only perfect man with right standing before God. He comes to blaze a path defined by God’s justice, not by our own sense of right and wrong. All men, women, and children who commit their lives to Him will be made right with God and will begin new lives defined by faith and God’s new covenant.
5 Moses made this clear long ago when he wrote about what it takes to have a right relationship with God based on the law: “The person devoted to the law’s commands will live by them.”[a] 6 But a right relationship based on faith sounds like this: “Do not say to yourselves, ‘Who will go up into heaven?’”[b] (that is, to bring down the Anointed One), 7 “or, ‘Who will go down into the abyss?’”[c] (that is, to bring the Anointed One up from the dead). 8 But what does it actually say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[d] (that is, the good news we have been called to preach to you). 9 So if you believe deep in your heart that God raised Jesus from the pit of death and if you voice your allegiance by confessing the truth that “Jesus is Lord,” then you will be saved! 10 Belief begins in the heart and leads to a life that’s right with God; confession departs from our lips and brings eternal salvation. 11 Because what Isaiah said was true: “The one who trusts in Him will not be disgraced.”[e] 12 Remember that the Lord draws no distinction between Jew and non-Jew—He is Lord over all things, and He pours out His treasures on all who invoke His name 13 because as Scripture says, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[f]
Faith is not something we do. It is a response to what God has done already on our behalf, the response of a spirit restless in a fragmented world.
14 How can people invoke His name when they do not believe? How can they believe in Him when they have not heard? How can they hear if there is no one proclaiming Him? 15 How can some give voice to the truth if they are not sent by God? As Isaiah said, “Ah, how beautiful the feet of those who declare the good news of victory, of peace and liberation.”[g] 16 But some will hear the good news and refuse to submit to the truth they hear. Isaiah the prophet also says, “Lord, who would ever believe it? Who would possibly accept what we’ve been told?”[h] 17 So faith proceeds from hearing, as we listen to the message about God’s Anointed.
18 But let me ask this: have my people ever heard? Indeed, they have:
Yet from here to the ends of the earth, their voice has gone out;
the whole world has heard what they have to say.[i]
19 But again let me ask: did Israel perhaps hear and not understand all of this? Well, Moses was the first to say,
I will make you jealous with a people who are not a nation.
With a senseless people I will anger you.[j]
20 Then Isaiah the fearless prophet says it this way:
I was found by people who did not seek Me;
I showed My face to those who never asked for Me.[k]
21 And as to the fate of Israel, God says,
All day long I opened My hands
to a rebellious people, who constantly work against Me.[l]
