Os judeus rejeitam a justiça de Deus
10 Irmãos, o bom desejo do meu coração e a oração a Deus por Israel é para sua salvação. 2 Porque lhes dou testemunho de que têm zelo de Deus, mas não com entendimento. 3 Porquanto, não conhecendo a justiça de Deus e procurando estabelecer a sua própria justiça, não se sujeitaram à justiça de Deus. 4 Porque o fim da lei é Cristo para justiça de todo aquele que crê.
5 Ora, Moisés descreve a justiça que é pela lei, dizendo: O homem que fizer estas coisas viverá por elas. 6 Mas a justiça que é pela fé diz assim: Não digas em teu coração: Quem subirá ao céu (isto é, a trazer do alto a Cristo)? 7 Ou: Quem descerá ao abismo (isto é, a tornar a trazer dentre os mortos a Cristo)? 8 Mas que diz? A palavra está junto de ti, na tua boca e no teu coração; esta é a palavra da fé, que pregamos, 9 a saber: Se, com a tua boca, confessares ao Senhor Jesus e, em teu coração, creres que Deus o ressuscitou dos mortos, serás salvo. 10 Visto que com o coração se crê para a justiça, e com a boca se faz confissão para a salvação. 11 Porque a Escritura diz: Todo aquele que nele crer não será confundido. 12 Porquanto não há diferença entre judeu e grego, porque um mesmo é o Senhor de todos, rico para com todos os que o invocam. 13 Porque todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo. 14 Como, pois, invocarão aquele em quem não creram? E como crerão naquele de quem não ouviram? E como ouvirão, se não há quem pregue? 15 E como pregarão, se não forem enviados? Como está escrito: Quão formosos os pés dos que anunciam a paz, dos que anunciam coisas boas!
16 Mas nem todos obedecem ao evangelho; pois Isaías diz: Senhor, quem creu na nossa pregação? 17 De sorte que a fé é pelo ouvir, e o ouvir pela palavra de Deus. 18 Mas digo: Porventura, não ouviram? Sim, por certo, pois por toda a terra saiu a voz deles, e as suas palavras até aos confins do mundo. 19 Mas digo: Porventura, Israel não o soube? Primeiramente, diz Moisés: Eu vos meterei em ciúmes com aqueles que não são povo, com gente insensata vos provocarei à ira. 20 E Isaías ousadamente diz: Fui achado pelos que me não buscavam, fui manifestado aos que por mim não perguntavam. 21 Mas contra Israel diz: Todo o dia estendi as minhas mãos a um povo rebelde e contradizente.

10 Irmãos, o desejo de meu coração e minha oração a Deus é que o povo de Israel seja salvo. 2 Sei da dedicação deles por Deus, mas é entusiasmo sem entendimento. 3 Pois, não entendendo a maneira como Deus declara as pessoas justas diante dele, apegam-se a seu próprio modo de se tornar justos tentando seguir a lei, e recusam a maneira de Deus. 4 Pois Cristo é o propósito para o qual a lei foi dada.[a] Como resultado, todo o que nele crê é declarado justo.
A salvação é para todos
5 Moisés escreve que o modo pelo qual a lei torna alguém justo exige obediência a todos os seus mandamentos.[b] 6 Mas o modo pelo qual a fé torna alguém justo diz: “Não diga em seu coração: ‘Quem subirá ao céu?’ (para trazer Cristo para a terra). 7 E não diga: ‘Quem descerá ao lugar dos mortos?’ (para trazer Cristo de volta à vida)”. 8 Na verdade, diz:
“A mensagem está bem perto;
está em seus lábios e em seu coração”.[c]
E essa mensagem é a mesma que anunciamos a respeito da fé: 9 se você declarar com sua boca que Jesus é Senhor e crer em seu coração que Deus o ressuscitou dos mortos, será salvo. 10 Pois é crendo de coração que você é declarado justo, e é declarando com a boca que você é salvo. 11 Como dizem as Escrituras: “Quem confiar nele jamais será envergonhado”.[d] 12 Nesse sentido, não há diferença entre judeus e gentios,[e] uma vez que ambos têm o mesmo Senhor, que abençoa generosamente todos que o invocam. 13 Pois “todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo”.[f]
14 Mas como poderão invocá-lo se não crerem nele? E como crerão nele se jamais tiverem ouvido a seu respeito? E como ouvirão a seu respeito se ninguém lhes falar? 15 E como alguém falará se não for enviado? Por isso as Escrituras dizem: “Como são belos os pés dos mensageiros que trazem boas-novas!”.[g]
16 Nem todos, porém, aceitam as boas-novas, pois o profeta Isaías disse: “Senhor, quem creu em nossa mensagem?”.[h] 17 Portanto, a fé vem por ouvir, isto é, por ouvir as boas-novas a respeito de Cristo. 18 Mas eu pergunto: o povo de Israel ouviu, de fato, a mensagem? Sim, eles ouviram:
“Sua mensagem chegou a toda a terra,
e suas palavras alcançaram os confins do mundo”.[i]
19 Volto a perguntar: será que o povo de Israel entendeu? Sim, eles entenderam, pois, já no tempo de Moisés, Deus disse:
“Provocarei seu ciúme por meio de um povo
que nem sequer é nação.
Provocarei sua ira por meio
de gentios insensatos”.[j]
20 E, mais tarde, Isaías se pronunciou com ousadia:
“Fui encontrado por aqueles
que não me procuravam.
Revelei-me àqueles que
não perguntavam por mim”.[k]
21 A respeito de Israel, porém, diz:
“O dia todo abri meus braços para eles,
mas foram desobedientes e rebeldes”.[l]

Israel Needs the Gospel
10 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for [a]Israel is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness (A)that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of (B)God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own (C)righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. 4 For (D)Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, (E)“The man who does those things shall live by them.” 6 But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, (F)“Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, (G)“ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? (H)“The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that (I)if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, (J)“Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For (K)there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for (L)the same Lord over all (M)is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For (N)“whoever calls (O)on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Israel Rejects the Gospel
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear (P)without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
(Q)“How beautiful are the feet of those who [b]preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, (R)“Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed:
(S)“Their sound has gone out to all the earth,
And their words to the ends of the world.”
19 But I say, did Israel not know? First Moses says:
(T)“I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation,
I will move you to anger by a (U)foolish nation.”
20 But Isaiah is very bold and says:
(V)“I was found by those who did not seek Me;
I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”
21 But to Israel he says:
(W)“All day long I have stretched out My hands
To a disobedient and contrary people.”
