7 Ignorate, fratelli (perché parlo a persone che hanno conoscenza della legge), che la legge ha potere sull'uomo per tutto il tempo che egli vive?
2 Infatti una donna sposata è per legge legata al marito finché egli vive, ma se il marito muore, ella è sciolta dalla legge del marito.
3 Perciò, se mentre vive il marito ella diventa moglie di un altro uomo, sarà chiamata adultera; ma quando il marito muore, ella è liberata da quella legge, per cui non è considerata adultera se diventa moglie di un altro uomo.
4 Così dunque, fratelli miei, anche voi siete morti alla legge mediante il corpo di Cristo per appartenere ad un altro, che è risuscitato dai morti, affinché portiamo frutti a Dio.
5 Infatti, mentre eravamo nella carne, le passioni peccaminose che erano mosse dalla legge operavano nelle nostre membra, portando frutti per la morte,
6 ma ora siamo stati sciolti dalla legge, essendo morti a ciò che ci teneva soggetti, per cui serviamo in novità di spirito e non il vecchio sistema della lettera.
7 Che diremo dunque? Che la legge è peccato? Cosí non sia; anzi io non avrei conosciuto il peccato, se non mediante la legge; infatti io non avrei conosciuta la concupiscenza, se la legge non avesse detto: «Non concupire».
8 Il peccato invece, presa occasione da questo comandamento, ha prodotto in me ogni concupiscenza,
9 perché senza la legge, il peccato è morto. Ci fu un tempo in cui io vivevo senza la legge, ma essendo venuto il comandamento, il peccato prese vita ed io morii,
10 e trovai che proprio il comandamento, che è in funzione della vita, mi era motivo di morte.
11 Infatti il peccato, colta l'occasione per mezzo del comandamento, mi ingannò e mediante quello mi uccise.
12 Cosí, la legge è certamente santa, e il comandamento santo, giusto e buono.
13 Ciò che è buono è dunque diventato morte per me? Cosí non sia; anzi il peccato mi è diventato morte, affinché appaia che il peccato produce in me la morte per mezzo di ciò che è buono, affinché il peccato divenisse estremamente peccaminoso per mezzo del comandamento,
14 Infatti noi sappiamo che la legge è spirituale, ma io sono carnale, venduto come schiavo al peccato.
15 Giacché non capisco quel che faccio, perché non faccio quello che vorrei, ma faccio quello che odio.
16 Ora, se faccio ciò che non voglio, io riconosco che la legge è buona.
17 Quindi non sono piú io ad agire, ma è il peccato che abita in me.
18 Infatti io so che in me, cioè nella mia carne, non abita alcun bene, poiché ben si trova in me la volontà di fare il bene, ma io non trovo il modo di compierlo.
19 Infatti il bene che io voglio, non lo faccio; ma il male che non voglio, quello faccio.
20 Ora, se faccio ciò che non voglio, non sono piú io che lo faccio, ma è il peccato che abita in me.
21 Io scopro dunque questa legge: che volendo fare il bene, in me è presente il male.
22 Infatti io mi diletto nella legge di Dio secondo l'uomo interiore,
23 ma vedo un'altra legge nelle mie membra, che combatte contro la legge della mia mente e che mi rende schiavo della legge del peccato che è nelle mie membra.
24 O miserabile uomo che sono! Chi mi libererà da questo corpo di morte?
25 Io rendo grazie a Dio per mezzo di Gesú Cristo, nostro Signore. Io stesso dunque con la mente servo la legge di Dio, ma con la carne la legge del peccato.

7 أَيَخْفَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَيُّهَا الإِخْوَةُ وَأَنَا أُخَاطِبُ أُنَاساً يَعْرِفُونَ قَوَانِينَ الشَّرِيعَةِ أَنَّ لِلشَّرِيعَةِ سِيَادَةً عَلَى الإِنْسَانِ مَادَامَ حَيًّا؟ 2 فَالْمَرْأَةُ الْمُتَزَوِّجَةُ تَرْبِطُهَا الشَّرِيعَةُ بِزَوْجِهَا مَادَامَ حَيًّا. وَلكِنْ، إِنْ مَاتَ الزَّوْجُ، فَالشَّرِيعَةُ تَحُلُّهَا مِنَ الارْتِبَاطِ بِهِ. 3 وَلِذَلِكَ، فَمَادَامَ الزَّوْجُ حَيًّا، تُعْتَبَرُ زَانِيَةً إِنْ صَارَتْ إِلَى رَجُلٍ آخَرَ. وَلَكِنْ إِنْ مَاتَ الزَّوْجُ تَتَحَرَّرْ مِنَ الشَّرِيعَةِ، حَتَّى إِنَّهَا لَا تَكُونُ زَانِيَةً إِنْ صَارَتْ إِلَى رَجُلٍ آخَرَ.
4 وَهكَذَا أَنْتُمْ أَيْضاً يَا إِخْوَتِي، فَإِنَّكُمْ بِجَسَدِ الْمَسِيحِ الَّذِي مَاتَ، قَدْ صِرْتُمْ أَمْوَاتاً بِالنِّسْبَةِ لِلشَّرِيعَةِ، لِكَيْ تَصِيرُوا لِآخَرَ، إِلَى الْمَسِيحِ نَفْسِهِ الَّذِي أُقِيمَ مِنْ بَيْنِ الأَمْوَاتِ، مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنْ نُثْمِرَ لِلهِ. 5 فَعِنْدَمَا كُنَّا فِي الْجَسَدِ، كَانَتْ أَهْوَاءُ الْخَطَايَا الْمُعْلَنَةِ فِي الشَّرِيعَةِ عَامِلَةً فِي أَعْضَائِنَا لِكَيْ نُثْمِرَ لِلْمَوْتِ. 6 أَمَّا الآنَ، فَقَدْ تَحَرَّرْنَا مِنَ الشَّرِيعَةِ، إِذْ مُتْنَا بِالنِّسْبَةِ لِمَا كَانَ يُقَيِّدُنَا، حَتَّى نَكُونَ عَبِيداً يَخْدِمُونَ وَفْقاً لِلنِّظَامِ الرُّوحِيِّ الْجَدِيدِ، لَا لِلنِّظَامِ الْحَرْفِيِّ الْعَتِيقِ.
الناموس والخطيئة
7 إِذَنْ، مَاذَا نَقُولُ؟ هَلِ الشَّرِيعَةُ خَطِيئَةٌ؟ حَاشَا! وَلكِنِّي مَا عَرَفْتُ الْخَطِيئَةَ إِلّا بِالشَّرِيعَةِ. فَمَا كُنْتُ لأَعْرِفَ الشَّهْوَةَ لَوْلا قَولُ الشَّرِيعَةِ: «لا تَشْتَهِ!» 8 وَلَكِنَّ الْخَطِيئَةَ اسْتَغَلَّتْ هَذِهِ الْوَصِيَّةَ فَأَثَارَتْ فِيَّ كُلَّ شَهْوَةٍ. فَلَوْلا الشَّرِيعَةُ، لَكَانَتْ الْخَطِيئَةُ مَيِّتَةٌ. 9 أَمَّا أَنَا فَكُنْتُ مِنْ قَبْلُ عَائِشاً بِمَعْزِلٍ عَنِ الشَّرِيعَةِ؛ وَلَكِنْ لَمَّا جَاءَتِ الشَّرِيعَةُ عَاشَتِ الْخَطِيئَةُ، 10 فَمُتُّ أَنَا. وَالْوَصِيَّةُ الْهَادِفَةُ إِلَى الْحَيَاةِ، صَارَتْ لِي مُؤَدِّيَةً إِلَى الْمَوْتِ. 11 فَإِنَّ الْخَطِيئَةَ، إِذِ اسْتَغَلَّتِ الْوَصِيَّةَ، خَدَعَتْنِي وَقَتَلَتْنِي بِها. 12 فَالشَّرِيعَةُ إِذَنْ مُقَدَّسَةٌ، وَالْوَصِيَّةُ مُقَدَّسَةٌ وَعَادِلَةٌ وَصَالِحَةٌ. 13 فَهَلْ صَارَ مَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ مَوْتاً لِي؟ حَاشَا! وَلَكِنَّ الْخَطِيئَةَ، لِكَيْ تَظْهَرَ أَنَّهَا خَطِيئَةٌ، أَنْتَجَتْ لِيَ الْمَوْتَ بِمَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ، حَتَّى تَصِيرَ الْخَطِيئَةُ خَاطِئَةً جِدّاً بِسَبَبِ الْوَصِيَّةِ.
14 فَإِنَّنَا نَعْلَمُ أَنَّ الشَّرِيعَةَ رُوحِيَّةٌ؛ وَأَمَّا أَنَا فَجَسَدِيٌّ بِيعَ عَبْداً لِلْخَطِيئَةِ. 15 فَإِنَّ مَا أَفْعَلُهُ لَا أَمْلِكُ السَّيْطَرَةَ عَلَيْهِ: إِذْ لَا أَفْعَلُ مَا أُرِيدُهُ، وَإِنَّ مَا أُبْغِضُهُ فَإِيَّاهُ أَعْمَلُ. 16 فَمَادُمْتُ أَعْمَلُ مَا لَا أُرِيدُهُ، فَإِنِّي أُصَادِقُ عَلَى صَوَابِ الشَّرِيعَةِ. 17 فَالآنَ، إِذَنْ، لَيْسَ بَعْدُ أَنَا مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذلِكَ، بَلِ الْخَطِيئَةُ الَّتِي تَسْكُنُ فِيَّ. 18 لأَنَّنِي أَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ فِيَّ، أَيْ فِي جَسَدِي، لَا يَسْكُنُ الصَّلاحُ: فَأَنْ أُرِيدَ الصَّلاحَ ذَلِكَ مُتَوَفِّرٌ لَدَيَّ؛ وَأَمَّا أَنْ أَفْعَلَهُ، فَذَلِكَ لَا أَسْتَطِيعُهُ. 19 فَأَنَا لَا أَعْمَلُ الصَّلاحَ الَّذِي أُرِيدُهُ؛ وَإِنَّمَا الشَّرُّ الَّذِي لَا أُرِيدُهُ فَإِيَّاهُ أُمَارِسُ. 20 وَلكِنْ، إِنْ كَانَ مَا لَا أُرِيدُهُ أَنَا إِيَّاهُ أَعْمَلُ، فَلَيْسَ بَعْدُ أَنَا مَنْ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ، بَلِ الْخَطِيئَةُ الَّتِي تَسْكُنُ فِيَّ. 21 إِذَنْ، أَجِدُ نَفْسِي، أَنَا الَّذِي يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ مَا هُوَ صَالِحٌ، خَاضِعاً لِهَذَا النَّامُوسِ: 22 أَنَّ لَدَيَّ الشَّرَّ. فَإِنَّنِي، وَفْقاً لِلإِنْسَانِ الْبَاطِنِ فِيَّ، أَبْتَهِجُ بِشَرِيعَةِ اللهِ. 23 وَلكِنَّنِي أَرَى فِي أَعْضَائِي نَامُوساً آخَرَ يُحَارِبُ الشَّرِيعَةَ الَّتِي يُرِيدُهَا عَقْلِي، وَيَجْعَلُنِي أَسِيراً لِنَامُوسِ الْخَطِيئَةِ الْكَائِنِ فِي أَعْضَائِي. 24 فَيَا لِي مِنْ إِنْسَانٍ تَعِيسٍ! مَنْ يُحَرِّرُنِي مِنْ جَسَدِ الْمَوْتِ هَذَا؟ 25 أَشْكُرُ اللهَ بِيَسُوعَ الْمَسِيحِ رَبِّنَا! إِذَنْ، أَنَا نَفْسِي مِنْ حَيْثُ الْعَقْلِ، أَخْدِمُ شَرِيعَةَ اللهِ عَبْداً لَهَا؛ وَلَكِنَّنِي مِنْ حَيْثُ الْجَسَدِ، أَخْدِمُ نَامُوسَ الْخَطِيئَةِ عَبْداً لَهُ.

Released From the Law, Bound to Christ
7 Do you not know, brothers and sisters(A)—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him.(B) 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress.(C) But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.
4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law(D) through the body of Christ,(E) that you might belong to another,(F) to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh,[a](G) the sinful passions aroused by the law(H) were at work in us,(I) so that we bore fruit for death.(J) 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law(K) so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.(L)
The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then?(M) Is the law sinful? Certainly not!(N) Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.(O) For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”[b](P) 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(Q) produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.(R) 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life(S) actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(T) deceived me,(U) and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.(V)
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good(W) to bring about my death,(X) so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,(Y) sold(Z) as a slave to sin.(AA) 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.(AB) 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.(AC) 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.(AD) 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c](AE) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.(AF) 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.(AG)
21 So I find this law at work:(AH) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(AI) I delight in God’s law;(AJ) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(AK) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(AL) at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?(AM) 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!(AN)
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,(AO) but in my sinful nature[d] a slave to the law of sin.(AP)
