Il battesimo
6 Che diremo dunque? Continuiamo a restare nel peccato perché abbondi la grazia? 2 E' assurdo! Noi che gia siamo morti al peccato, come potremo ancora vivere nel peccato? 3 O non sapete che quanti siamo stati battezzati in Cristo Gesù, siamo stati battezzati nella sua morte? 4 Per mezzo del battesimo siamo dunque stati sepolti insieme a lui nella morte, perché come Cristo fu risuscitato dai morti per mezzo della gloria del Padre, così anche noi possiamo camminare in una vita nuova. 5 Se infatti siamo stati completamente uniti a lui con una morte simile alla sua, lo saremo anche con la sua risurrezione. 6 Sappiamo bene che il nostro uomo vecchio è stato crocifisso con lui, perché fosse distrutto il corpo del peccato, e noi non fossimo più schiavi del peccato. 7 Infatti chi è morto, è ormai libero dal peccato.
8 Ma se siamo morti con Cristo, crediamo che anche vivremo con lui, 9 sapendo che Cristo risuscitato dai morti non muore più; la morte non ha più potere su di lui. 10 Per quanto riguarda la sua morte, egli morì al peccato una volta per tutte; ora invece per il fatto che egli vive, vive per Dio. 11 Così anche voi consideratevi morti al peccato, ma viventi per Dio, in Cristo Gesù.
A servizio del peccato e a servizio della giustizia
12 Non regni più dunque il peccato nel vostro corpo mortale, sì da sottomettervi ai suoi desideri; 13 non offrite le vostre membra come strumenti di ingiustizia al peccato, ma offrite voi stessi a Dio come vivi tornati dai morti e le vostre membra come strumenti di giustizia per Dio. 14 Il peccato infatti non dominerà più su di voi poiché non siete più sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia.
Il cristiano è liberato dal peccato
15 Che dunque? Dobbiamo commettere peccati perché non siamo più sotto la legge, ma sotto la grazia? E' assurdo! 16 Non sapete voi che, se vi mettete a servizio di qualcuno come schiavi per obbedirgli, siete schiavi di colui al quale servite: sia del peccato che porta alla morte, sia dell'obbedienza che conduce alla giustizia? 17 Rendiamo grazie a Dio, perché voi eravate schiavi del peccato, ma avete obbedito di cuore a quell'insegnamento che vi è stato trasmesso 18 e così, liberati dal peccato, siete diventati servi della giustizia.
19 Parlo con esempi umani, a causa della debolezza della vostra carne. Come avete messo le vostre membra a servizio dell'impurità e dell'iniquità a pro dell'iniquità, così ora mettete le vostre membra a servizio della giustizia per la vostra santificazione.
I frutti del peccato e della giustizia
20 Quando infatti eravate sotto la schiavitù del peccato, eravate liberi nei riguardi della giustizia. 21 Ma quale frutto raccoglievate allora da cose di cui ora vi vergognate? Infatti il loro destino è la morte. 22 Ora invece, liberati dal peccato e fatti servi di Dio, voi raccogliete il frutto che vi porta alla santificazione e come destino avete la vita eterna. 23 Perché il salario del peccato è la morte; ma il dono di Dio è la vita eterna in Cristo Gesù nostro Signore.
Romans 6

6 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
13 Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.
16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.
19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
20 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.
21 What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.
22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Muertos al pecado
6 ¿Qué diremos, entonces(A)? ¿Continuaremos en pecado para que la gracia abunde(B)? 2 ¡De ningún modo(C)! Nosotros, que hemos muerto al pecado, ¿cómo viviremos aún en él(D)? 3 ¿O no sabéis que todos los que hemos sido bautizados(E) en Cristo Jesús(F), hemos sido bautizados en su muerte? 4 Por tanto, hemos sido sepultados con Él por medio del bautismo para muerte, a fin de que como Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos(G) por la gloria del Padre(H), así también nosotros andemos en novedad de vida(I). 5 Porque si hemos sido unidos[a] a Él en la semejanza[b] de su muerte(J), ciertamente lo seremos también en la semejanza de su resurrección, 6 sabiendo esto, que nuestro viejo hombre(K) fue crucificado con Él(L), para que nuestro cuerpo de pecado(M) fuera destruido[c], a fin de que ya no seamos esclavos del pecado; 7 porque el que ha muerto, ha sido libertado[d] del pecado(N). 8 Y si hemos muerto con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con Él(O), 9 sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de entre los muertos(P), no volverá a morir; ya la muerte no tiene dominio sobre Él(Q). 10 Porque en cuanto Él murió, murió al pecado de una vez para siempre; pero en cuanto vive, vive para Dios. 11 Así también vosotros, consideraos muertos para el pecado, pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús[e](R).
Siervos, no del pecado, sino de la justicia
12 Por tanto, no reine el pecado en vuestro cuerpo mortal(S) para que no obedezcáis sus lujurias; 13 ni presentéis los miembros de vuestro cuerpo[f](T) al pecado como instrumentos[g] de iniquidad, sino presentaos vosotros mismos a Dios como vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros a Dios como instrumentos[h] de justicia(U). 14 Porque el pecado no tendrá dominio sobre vosotros(V), pues no estáis bajo la ley(W) sino bajo la gracia(X).
Libertados del pecado
15 ¿Entonces qué? ¿Pecaremos porque no estamos bajo la ley, sino bajo la gracia(Y)? ¡De ningún modo(Z)! 16 ¿No sabéis(AA) que cuando os presentáis a alguno como esclavos para obedecerle[i], sois esclavos de aquel a quien obedecéis, ya sea del pecado(AB) para muerte(AC), o de la obediencia para justicia? 17 Pero gracias a Dios(AD), que aunque erais esclavos del pecado, os hicisteis[j] obedientes de corazón a aquella forma de enseñanza a la que fuisteis entregados(AE); 18 y habiendo sido libertados del pecado, os habéis hecho siervos de la justicia(AF). 19 Hablo en términos humanos(AG), por causa de la debilidad de vuestra carne. Porque de la manera que presentasteis vuestros miembros como esclavos a la impureza y a la iniquidad, para iniquidad, así ahora presentad vuestros miembros como esclavos a la justicia(AH), para santificación. 20 Porque cuando erais esclavos del pecado, erais libres en cuanto a la justicia(AI). 21 ¿Qué fruto teníais entonces en[k] aquellas cosas de las cuales ahora os avergonzáis? Porque el fin de esas cosas es muerte(AJ). 22 Pero ahora, habiendo sido libertados del pecado(AK) y hechos siervos de Dios(AL), tenéis por vuestro fruto(AM) la santificación, y como resultado la vida eterna(AN). 23 Porque la paga del pecado es muerte(AO), pero la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro(AP).
