Dieu n’a pas rejeté son peuple
11 Je dis donc: Dieu a-t-il rejeté son peuple? Loin de là! Car moi aussi je suis Israélite, de la postérité d’Abraham, de la tribu de Benjamin. 2 Dieu n’a point rejeté son peuple, qu’il a connu d’avance. Ne savez-vous pas ce que l’Ecriture rapporte d’Elie, comment il adresse à Dieu cette plainte contre Israël: 3 Seigneur, ils ont tué tes prophètes, ils ont renversé tes autels; moi seul, je suis resté, et ils cherchent à m’ôter la vie[a]? 4 Mais quelle réponse Dieu lui donne-t-il? Je me suis réservé sept mille hommes qui n’ont point fléchi le genou devant Baal[b]. 5 De même aussi dans le temps présent, il y a un reste selon l’élection de la grâce. 6 Or, si c’est par grâce, ce n’est plus par les œuvres; autrement la grâce n’est plus une grâce. [Et si c’est par les œuvres, ce n’est plus une grâce; autrement l’œuvre n’est plus une œuvre.]
7 Quoi donc? Ce qu’Israël cherche, il ne l’a pas obtenu, mais les élus l’ont obtenu[c], tandis que les autres ont été endurcis, 8 selon qu’il est écrit:
Dieu leur a donné un esprit d’assoupissement,
Des yeux pour ne point voir,
Et des oreilles pour ne point entendre,
Jusqu’à ce jour[d].
Et David dit:
9 Que leur table soit pour eux un piège,
Un filet, une occasion de chute, et une rétribution!
10 Que leurs yeux soient obscurcis pour ne point voir,
Et tiens leur dos continuellement courbé[e]!
Avertissement aux païens
11 Je dis donc: Est-ce pour tomber qu’ils ont bronché? Loin de là! Mais, par leur chute, le salut est devenu accessible aux païens, afin qu’ils soient excités à la jalousie. 12 Or, si leur chute a été la richesse du monde, et leur amoindrissement la richesse des païens, combien plus en sera-t-il ainsi quand ils se convertiront tous[f]. 13 Je vous le dis à vous, païens: en tant qu’apôtre des païens, je glorifie mon ministère, 14 afin, s’il est possible, d’exciter la jalousie de ceux de ma race, et d’en sauver quelques-uns. 15 Car si leur mise à l’écart[g] a été la réconciliation du monde, que sera leur réintégration, sinon le passage de la mort à la vie[h]?
16 Or, si les prémices[i] sont saintes, la masse l’est aussi; et si la racine est sainte, les branches le sont aussi. 17 Mais si quelques-unes des branches ont été retranchées, et si toi, qui étais un olivier sauvage, tu as été greffé[j] à leur place, et rendu participant de la racine nourricière de l’olivier, 18 ne te glorifie pas aux dépens de ces branches. Si tu te glorifies, sache que ce n’est pas toi qui portes la racine, mais que c’est la racine qui te porte. 19 Tu diras donc: Les branches ont été retranchées afin que moi je sois greffé. 20 Cela est vrai; elles ont été retranchées pour cause d’incrédulité, et toi, tu subsistes par la foi. Ne t’abandonne pas à l’orgueil, mais crains; 21 car si Dieu n’a pas épargné les branches naturelles, il ne t’épargnera pas non plus. 22 Considère donc la bonté et la sévérité de Dieu: sévérité envers ceux qui sont tombés, et bonté de Dieu envers toi, si tu demeures ferme dans cette bonté; autrement, tu seras aussi retranché. 23 Eux de même, s’ils ne persistent pas dans l’incrédulité, ils seront greffés; car Dieu est puissant pour les greffer de nouveau. 24 Si toi, tu as été coupé de l’olivier sauvage selon sa nature, et greffé contrairement à ta nature sur l’olivier franc, à plus forte raison eux seront-ils greffés selon leur nature sur leur propre olivier.
Le salut d’Israël
25 Car je ne veux pas, frères, que vous ignoriez ce mystère, afin que vous ne vous regardiez point comme sages: une partie d’Israël est tombée dans l’endurcissement, jusqu’à ce que la totalité des païens soit entrée. 26 Et ainsi tout Israël sera sauvé, selon qu’il est écrit:
Le libérateur viendra de Sion,
Et il détournera de Jacob les impiétés;
27 Et ce sera mon alliance avec eux,
Lorsque j’ôterai leurs péchés[k].
28 En ce qui concerne l’Evangile, ils sont ennemis à cause de vous; mais en ce qui concerne l’élection, ils sont aimés à cause de leurs pères. 29 Car les dons et l’appel de Dieu sont irrévocables[l]. 30 De même que vous avez autrefois désobéi à Dieu, et que par leur désobéissance vous avez maintenant obtenu miséricorde, 31 de même ils ont maintenant désobéi, afin que, par la miséricorde qui vous a été faite, ils obtiennent aussi miséricorde. 32 Car Dieu a renfermé tous les hommes dans la désobéissance pour faire miséricorde à tous.
33 O profondeur de la richesse, de la sagesse et de la science de Dieu! Que ses jugements sont insondables, et ses voies incompréhensibles! Car
34 Qui a connu la pensée du Seigneur,
Ou qui a été son conseiller[m]?
35 Qui lui a donné le premier, pour qu’il ait à recevoir en retour?
36 C’est de lui, par lui, et pour lui que sont toutes choses. A lui la gloire dans tous les siècles! Amen!

11 Je demande donc : Dieu aurait-il rejeté son peuple ? Assurément pas ! En effet, ne suis-je pas moi-même Israélite, descendant d’Abraham, de la tribu de Benjamin ? 2 Non, Dieu n’a pas rejeté son peuple qu’il s’est choisi d’avance. Rappelez-vous ce que dit l’Ecriture dans le passage rapportant l’histoire d’Elie dans lequel celui-ci se plaint à Dieu au sujet d’Israël : 3 Seigneur, ils ont tué tes prophètes, ils ont démoli tes autels. Et moi, je suis resté tout seul, et voilà qu’ils en veulent à ma vie[a].
4 Eh bien ! quelle a été la réponse de Dieu ? J’ai gardé en réserve pour moi sept mille hommes qui ne se sont pas prosternés devant le dieu Baal[b].
5 Il en est de même dans le temps présent : il subsiste un reste que Dieu a librement choisi dans sa grâce. 6 Or, puisque c’est par grâce, cela ne peut pas venir des œuvres, ou alors la grâce n’est plus la grâce.
7 Que s’est-il donc passé ? Ce que le peuple d’Israël cherchait, il ne l’a pas trouvé ; seuls ceux que Dieu a choisis l’ont obtenu. Les autres ont été rendus incapables de comprendre, conformément à ce qui est écrit :
8 Dieu a frappé leur esprit de torpeur, leurs yeux de cécité et leurs oreilles de surdité,
et il en est ainsi jusqu’à ce jour[c] .
9 De même David déclare :
Que leurs banquets deviennent pour eux un piège, un filet,
une cause de chute, et qu’ils y trouvent leur châtiment.
10 Que leurs yeux s’obscurcissent ╵au point de ne plus voir,
fais-leur courber le dos ╵continuellement[d]!
La chute d’Israël n’est pas définitive
11 Je demande alors : si les Israélites ont trébuché, est-ce pour tomber définitivement ? Loin de là ! Par leur faute, le salut est devenu accessible aux païens, ce qui excitera leur jalousie. 12 Et si leur faute a fait la richesse du monde, et leur déchéance la richesse des non-Juifs, quelle richesse plus grande encore n’y aura-t-il pas dans leur complet rétablissement ?
13 Je m’adresse particulièrement ici à vous qui êtes d’origine païenne : dans la mesure même où je suis l’apôtre des non-Juifs, je me fais une idée d’autant plus haute de mon ministère 14 que je parviendrai peut-être, en l’exerçant, à rendre jaloux ceux de mon peuple et à en conduire ainsi quelques-uns au salut. 15 Car si leur mise à l’écart a entraîné la réconciliation du monde, quel sera l’effet de leur réintégration ? Rien de moins qu’une résurrection d’entre les morts ! 16 En effet, si les prémices du pain offert à Dieu sont consacrées, toute la pâte l’est aussi. Si la racine est consacrée, les branches le sont aussi[e].
17 Ainsi en est-il d’Israël : quelques branches ont été coupées. Et toi qui, par ton origine païenne, étais comme un rameau d’olivier sauvage, tu as été greffé parmi les branches restantes, et voici que tu as part avec elles à la sève qui monte de la racine de l’olivier cultivé. 18 Ne te mets pas, pour autant, à te vanter aux dépens des branches coupées[f]. Et si tu es tenté par un tel orgueil, souviens-toi que ce n’est pas toi qui portes la racine, c’est elle qui te porte !
19 Peut-être vas-tu dire : si des branches ont été coupées, c’est pour que je puisse être greffé. 20 Bien ! Mais elles ont été coupées à cause de leur incrédulité ; et toi, c’est à cause de ta foi que tu tiens. Ne sois donc pas orgueilleux ! Sois plutôt sur tes gardes ! 21 Car si Dieu n’a pas épargné les branches naturelles, il ne t’épargnera pas non plus[g]. 22 Considère donc, à la fois, la bonté et la sévérité de Dieu : sévérité à l’égard de ceux qui sont tombés, bonté à ton égard aussi longtemps que tu t’attaches à cette bonté. Sinon, toi aussi, tu seras retranché.
23 En ce qui concerne les Israélites, s’ils ne demeurent pas dans leur incrédulité, ils seront regreffés. Car Dieu a le pouvoir de les greffer de nouveau. 24 En effet, toi, tu as été coupé de l’olivier sauvage auquel tu appartenais par ta nature, pour être greffé, contrairement à ta nature, sur l’olivier cultivé : à combien plus forte raison les branches qui proviennent de cet olivier seront-elles greffées sur lui !
« Tout Israël sera sauvé »
25 Frères et sœurs, je ne veux pas que vous restiez dans l’ignorance de ce mystère, pour que vous ne croyiez pas détenir en vous-mêmes une sagesse supérieure : l’endurcissement d’une partie d’Israël durera jusqu’à ce que l’ensemble des non-Juifs soit entré dans le peuple de Dieu, 26 et ainsi, tout Israël sera sauvé. C’est là ce que dit l’Ecriture :
De Sion[h] viendra le Libérateur ;
il éloignera de Jacob toute désobéissance.
27 Et voici en quoi consistera mon alliance avec eux[i] :
c’est que j’enlèverai leurs péchés[j] .
28 Si l’on se place du point de vue de l’Evangile, ils sont devenus ennemis de Dieu pour que vous en bénéficiiez. Mais du point de vue du libre choix de Dieu, ils restent ses bien-aimés à cause de leurs ancêtres. 29 Car les dons de la grâce et l’appel de Dieu sont irrévocables. 30 Vous-mêmes, en effet, vous avez désobéi à Dieu autrefois et maintenant Dieu vous a fait grâce en se servant de leur désobéissance. 31 De la même façon[k], si leur désobéissance actuelle a pour conséquence votre pardon, c’est pour que Dieu leur pardonne à eux aussi[l]. 32 Car Dieu a emprisonné tous les hommes dans la désobéissance afin de faire grâce à tous.
33 Combien grandes sont les richesses de Dieu, combien profondes sa sagesse et sa science ! Nul ne peut sonder ses jugements. Nul ne peut découvrir ses plans. 34 Car,
Qui a connu la pensée du Seigneur ?
Qui a été son conseiller[m] ?
35 Qui lui a fait des dons
pour devoir être payé de retour[n] ?
36 En effet, tout vient de lui, tout subsiste par lui et pour lui. A lui soit la gloire à jamais ! Amen.

The Remnant of Israel
11 I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means!(A) I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham,(B) from the tribe of Benjamin.(C) 2 God did not reject his people,(D) whom he foreknew.(E) Don’t you know what Scripture says in the passage about Elijah—how he appealed to God against Israel: 3 “Lord, they have killed your prophets and torn down your altars; I am the only one left, and they are trying to kill me”[a]?(F) 4 And what was God’s answer to him? “I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”[b](G) 5 So too, at the present time there is a remnant(H) chosen by grace.(I) 6 And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works;(J) if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
7 What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain.(K) The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,(L) 8 as it is written:
“God gave them a spirit of stupor,
eyes that could not see
and ears that could not hear,(M)
to this very day.”[c](N)
9 And David says:
“May their table become a snare and a trap,
a stumbling block and a retribution for them.
10 May their eyes be darkened so they cannot see,(O)
and their backs be bent forever.”[d](P)
Ingrafted Branches
11 Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all!(Q) Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles(R) to make Israel envious.(S) 12 But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,(T) how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!
13 I am talking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch as I am the apostle to the Gentiles,(U) I take pride in my ministry 14 in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy(V) and save(W) some of them. 15 For if their rejection brought reconciliation(X) to the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?(Y) 16 If the part of the dough offered as firstfruits(Z) is holy, then the whole batch is holy; if the root is holy, so are the branches.
17 If some of the branches have been broken off,(AA) and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others(AB) and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root, 18 do not consider yourself to be superior to those other branches. If you do, consider this: You do not support the root, but the root supports you.(AC) 19 You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith.(AD) Do not be arrogant,(AE) but tremble.(AF) 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.
22 Consider therefore the kindness(AG) and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue(AH) in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.(AI) 23 And if they do not persist in unbelief, they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.(AJ) 24 After all, if you were cut out of an olive tree that is wild by nature, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree,(AK) how much more readily will these, the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree!
All Israel Will Be Saved
25 I do not want you to be ignorant(AL) of this mystery,(AM) brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited:(AN) Israel has experienced a hardening(AO) in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,(AP) 26 and in this way[e] all Israel will be saved.(AQ) As it is written:
“The deliverer will come from Zion;
he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is[f] my covenant with them
when I take away their sins.”[g](AR)
28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies(AS) for your sake; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs,(AT) 29 for God’s gifts and his call(AU) are irrevocable.(AV) 30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient(AW) to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience, 31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now[h] receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you. 32 For God has bound everyone over to disobedience(AX) so that he may have mercy on them all.
Doxology
33 Oh, the depth of the riches(AY) of the wisdom and[i] knowledge of God!(AZ)
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!(BA)
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”[j](BB)
35 “Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?”[k](BC)
36 For from him and through him and for him are all things.(BD)
To him be the glory forever! Amen.(BE)

Some of the Jews do trust God
11 So I ask this: ‘Has God turned away from his people?’ No, certainly, he has not done that! I myself belong to Israel's people. I am a descendant of Abraham and I belong to Benjamin's tribe. 2 God chose who would be his people from the beginning. He has not turned against them now. Remember what the Bible tells us about Elijah. He wanted God to punish Israel's people. Elijah said: 3 ‘Lord God, they have killed your prophets. They have destroyed the altars where people offered sacrifices to you. I am the only person alive who still serves you. And they are trying to kill me.’ 4 This was God's answer to Elijah: ‘There are still 7,000 men that I have kept for myself. Those men have not worshipped the false god Baal.’[a]
5 It is the same at this time too. There is a small number of Israel's people that God has chosen to trust him. He has chosen them because he is very kind. 6 This shows that God has not chosen them because of any good things that they have done. If that was true, we could not say that God was really being kind to them. It would not be his gift.
7 So we can say this: Israel's people did not all find what they were looking for. Only those people that God had chosen received it. But the other people of Israel became unable to understand God's message. 8 It says this in the Bible:
‘God caused them to be like people who are sleeping.
Even until this day, their eyes cannot really see,
and their ears cannot really hear.’[b]
9 King David says this:
‘They enjoy eating lots of good food together.
I pray that God will catch them while they are eating!
I want those good things to lead them into trouble.
I want God to punish them because of what they have done.
10 I want their eyes to become dark so that they cannot see.
I want their bodies always to be in pain, like slaves.’[c]
11 So now I ask this: ‘When Israel's people failed to accept Jesus as God's Messiah, did they make themselves separate from God for ever?’ No, certainly that is not true! Because of their mistake, God is now saving Gentiles. God is doing that so that Israel's people would become jealous. 12 Because of their mistake, God has done good things for everyone in the world. Israel's people failed to receive what God wanted to give them. As a result, the Gentiles have received very many good things from God. That was the good result when Israel's people failed. So, when the complete number of Israel's people do turn to God, the result will be even better!
Paul speaks to the Gentiles
13 Now I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. God has sent me to be his apostle to the Gentiles. I thank him that he has given this important work to me. 14 I hope that my work among you Gentiles will cause my own people to be jealous. As a result, some of them may turn to God, so that he saves them. 15 When God turned away from Israel's people, he then accepted other people in the world as his friends. So, when God does accept Israel's people, the result will be even better! It will be like dead people who have become alive again!
16 If you offer the first piece of bread to God, then all the bread will belong to God. If the roots of a tree belong to God, then the branches will also be his.
17 Israel's people are like an olive tree that a farmer has planted. But God has broken off some of that tree's branches. Then he has taken a branch from a wild olive tree. He has put that wild branch into the farmer's tree, to become part of that tree. You Gentiles are like the wild branch. Now you receive food from the root of the farmer's tree, to make you strong. 18 Israel's people are like the branches that God broke off. But you must not think that you are better than those branches. Remember that you are still only a branch. You do not make the root strong. No, it is the root that holds you up and makes you strong.
19 You might say, ‘God broke off the branches so that I could become part of the tree.’ 20 That is true. God broke them off because they did not believe in Christ. God has accepted you as part of the tree because you do believe in Christ. So do not become proud. Instead, be afraid. 21 God broke off the proper branches and he did not let them stay in the tree. So, if you no longer trust him, he will not let you stay either.
22 So you should think about what God is like. He is kind, but he also punishes people. He has punished Israel's people, because they turned away from him. He has been kind to you. But you must continue to accept his kind gift. If you do not do that, he will break you off from his tree as well.
23 God is able to accept Israel's people back again. If they come to believe in Christ, God will put them back as part of the tree. He is able to make them become branches of the tree again. 24 God cut you like branches from a wild olive tree. Then he put you into the farmer's olive tree so that you became part of it. He could do that even though that was not your own tree before. So God will be able to do that for Israel's people. He can easily put them back into their own tree, that they were part of before.[d]
God will save the Jews
25 My Christian friends, I want to help you to understand about Israel's people. It is a secret that God has shown to us. If you really understand it, you will not be proud that you are so clever. Many of Israel's people have refused to believe in Christ. They will continue to refuse him until the complete number of Gentiles have believed. 26 When that has happened, God will save all Israel's people. This is written in the Bible:
‘The one who rescues will come from Zion.
He will turn Jacob's people away from their sins.[e]
27 And I will make this agreement with them.
I will forgive them for their sins.’[f]
28 Israel's people have become God's enemies, because they have refused to believe the good news about Christ. This has happened to help you Gentiles. But God still loves Israel's people, because he has chosen them as his own people. That is what he promised to their ancestors. 29 God's thoughts about his people cannot change. He has blessed them with gifts and he has chosen them to belong to him.
30 In past times, you Gentiles did not obey God. But now God has been very kind to you, because Israel's people refused to obey him. 31 They do not obey God now. As a result God has been very kind to you. That has happened so that God may now be very kind to them too. 32 God says that everyone is guilty because they do not obey him. He says that so that he can be kind and he can forgive everyone.
33 Yes! God is very great! He has everything! He knows and he understands all things! Nobody can completely understand the things that he decides. Nobody can explain the ways in which he works. 34 The Bible says this:
‘Nobody knows the thoughts of the Lord God.
Nobody is able to tell him what he should do.’[g]
35 ‘Nobody has ever given anything to God,
so that God had a debt to pay back to them.’[h]
36 It is God who made all things. He also causes all things to continue. And all things are there to show how great he is.
We praise him! He is great for ever! Amen. This is true!

- 11:24 When Jesus lived on earth, most of Israel's people, the Jews, did not believe that Jesus was God's Messiah. They were no longer part of God's true people. God's true people were like an olive tree that God had planted long ago. The wild olive tree is like the Gentiles. If they believe in Jesus, they become part of God's people. If the Jews decide to believe in Jesus, then they also belong to God's people again.
- 11:26 Zion is God's city, on earth (Jerusalem) or in heaven. See Revelation 21:2. ‘Jacob's people’ is another name for Israel's people, the Jews. Jacob was Abraham's grandson and God gave him the name ‘Israel’.

GOD’S WORD Translation
God’s Continuing Love for Jewish People
11 So I ask, “Has God rejected his people Israel?” That’s unthinkable! Consider this. I’m an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham from the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not rejected his people whom he knew long ago. Don’t you know what Elijah says in the Scripture passage when he complains to God about Israel? He says, 3 “Lord, they’ve killed your prophets and torn down your altars. I’m the only one left, and they’re trying to take my life.” 4 But what was God’s reply? God said, “I’ve kept 7,000 people for myself who have not knelt to worship Baal.” 5 So, as there were then, there are now a few left that God has chosen by his kindness.[a] 6 If they were chosen by God’s kindness, they weren’t chosen because of anything they did. Otherwise, God’s kindness wouldn’t be kindness.
7 So what does all this mean? It means that Israel has never achieved what it has been striving for. However, those whom God has chosen have achieved it. The minds of the rest of Israel were closed, 8 as Scripture says,
“To this day God has given them a spirit of deep sleep.
Their eyes don’t see,
and their ears don’t hear!”
9 And David says,
“Let the table set for them become a trap and a net,
a snare and a punishment for them.
10 Let their vision become clouded so that they cannot see.
Let them carry back-breaking burdens forever.”
11 So I ask, “Has Israel stumbled so badly that it can’t get up again?” That’s unthinkable! By Israel’s failure, salvation has come to people who are not Jewish to make the Jewish people jealous. 12 The fall of the Jewish people made the world spiritually rich. Their failure made people who are not Jewish spiritually rich. So the inclusion of Jewish people will make the world even richer.
13 Now, I speak to you who are not Jewish. As long as I am an apostle sent to people who are not Jewish, I bring honor to my ministry. 14 Perhaps I can make my people jealous and save some of them. 15 If Israel’s rejection means that the world has been brought back to God, what does Israel’s acceptance mean? It means that Israel has come back to life.
16 If the first handful of dough is holy, the whole batch of dough is holy. If the root is holy, the branches are holy. 17 But some of the olive branches have been broken off, and you, a wild olive branch, have been grafted in their place. You get your nourishment from the roots of the olive tree. 18 So don’t brag about being better than the other branches. If you brag, remember that you don’t support the root, the root supports you. 19 “Well,” you say, “Branches were cut off so that I could be grafted onto the tree.” 20 That’s right! They were broken off because they didn’t believe, but you remain on the tree because you do believe. Don’t feel arrogant, but be afraid. 21 If God didn’t spare the natural branches, he won’t spare you, either. 22 Look at how kind and how severe God can be. He is severe to those who fell, but kind to you if you continue to hold on to his kindness. Otherwise, you, too, will be cut off ⌞from the tree⌟.
23 If Jewish people do not continue in their unbelief, they will be grafted onto the tree again, because God is able to do that. 24 In spite of the fact that you have been cut from a wild olive tree, you have been grafted onto a cultivated one. So wouldn’t it be easier for these natural branches to be grafted onto the olive tree they belong to?
25 Brothers and sisters, I want you to understand this mystery so that you won’t become arrogant. The minds of some Israelites have become closed until all of God’s non-Jewish people are included. 26 In this way Israel as a whole will be saved, as Scripture says,
“The Savior will come from Zion.
He will remove godlessness from Jacob.
27 My promise [b] to them will be fulfilled
when I take away their sins.”
28 The Good News made the Jewish people enemies because of you. But by God’s choice they are loved because of their ancestors. 29 God never changes his mind when he gives gifts or when he calls someone. 30 In the past, you disobeyed God. But now God has been merciful to you because of the disobedience of the Jewish people. 31 In the same way, the Jewish people have also disobeyed so that God may be merciful to them as he was to you. 32 God has placed all people into the prison of their own disobedience so that he could be merciful to all people.
33 God’s riches, wisdom, and knowledge are so deep
that it is impossible to explain his decisions
or to understand his ways.
34 “Who knows how the Lord thinks?
Who can become his adviser?”
35 Who gave the Lord something
which the Lord must pay back?
36 Everything is from him and by him and for him.
Glory belongs to him forever! Amen!
