³² Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, ^[a]by the works of the law. For ^(A)they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, ^(A)to the Jews a ^[a]stumbling block and to the ^[b]Greeks ^(B)foolishness,

⁸ and

^(B)They stumble, being disobedient to the word, ^(C)to which they also were appointed.

²³ And blessed is he who is not ^[a]offended because of Me.”

Israel’s Rejection Not Final

¹¹ I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But ^(A)through their ^[a]fall, to provoke them to ^(B)jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles.

³ For they being ignorant of ^(A)God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own ^(B)righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God.

¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith that it might be ^(A)according to grace, ^(B)so that the promise might be ^[a]sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, ^(C)who is the father of us all

³⁴ Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother, “Behold, this Child is destined for the ^(A)fall and rising of many in Israel, and for ^(B)a sign which will be spoken against

³⁰ And he brought them out and said, ^(A)“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

³¹ So they said, ^(B)“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” ³² Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. ³³ And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. ³⁴ Now when he had brought them into his house, ^(C)he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
