⁵ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit^[a] set their minds on the things of the Spirit.^[b](A)

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, debauchery,^{(A) 20} idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, ²¹ envy,^[a] drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.^(B)

The Fruit of the Spirit

²² By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness,^{(C) 23} gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. ²⁴ And those who belong to Christ^[b] have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.^{(D) 25} If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit.

¹⁴ Those who are unspiritual^[a] do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.^(A)

⁶ What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

The New Life in Christ

3 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.^{(A) 2} Set your minds on the things that are above, not on the things that are on earth, ³ for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.^(B)

⁶ To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit^[a] is life and peace.^{(A) 7} For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law—indeed, it cannot,^(B)

¹⁸ For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears.^{(A) 19} Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.^(B)

⁹ But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit,^[a] since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.^(A)

¹² So then, brothers and sisters, we are obligated, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— ¹³ for if you live according to the flesh, you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.^{(A) 14} For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.^(B)
