¹³ For ^(A)if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you ^(B)put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

⁸ For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap ^(A)everlasting life.

Living Before the World

¹¹ Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts ^(A)which war against the soul,

^5 (A)Therefore put to death ^(B)your members which are on the earth: ^(C)fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, ^(D)which is idolatry. ^6 (E)Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon ^(F)the sons of disobedience, ^7 (G)in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.

^8 (H)But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

^27 (A)But I discipline my body and ^(B)bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become ^(C)disqualified.

¹² teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

²⁴ And those who are Christ’s ^(A)have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

²² that you ^(A)put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

The Enduring Word

²² Since you ^(A)have purified your souls in obeying the truth ^[a]through the Spirit in ^[b]sincere ^(B)love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart,

⁴ that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who ^(A)do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. ⁵ For ^(B)those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, ^(C)the things of the Spirit. ⁶ For ^(D)to be ^[a]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
