Sonship Through the Spirit

^12 (A)Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

² Certainly not! How shall we who ^(A)died to sin live any longer in it? ³ Or do you not know that ^(B)as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus ^(C)were baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we were ^(D)buried with Him through baptism into death, that ^(E)just as Christ was raised from the dead by ^(F)the glory of the Father, ^(G)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

^5 (H)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, ⁶ knowing this, that ^(I)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(J)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ⁷ For ^(K)he who has died has been ^[b]freed from sin. ⁸ Now ^(L)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, ⁹ knowing that ^(M)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. ¹⁰ For the death that He died, ^(N)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, ^(O)He lives to God. ¹¹ Likewise you also, ^[c]reckon yourselves to be ^(P)dead indeed to sin, but ^(Q)alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

^12 (R)Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. ¹³ And do not present your ^(S)members as ^[d]instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but ^(T)present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. ¹⁴ For ^(U)sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

From Slaves of Sin to Slaves of God

¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin ^(V)because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

¹⁹ Or ^(A)do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, ^(B)and you are not your own? ²⁰ For ^(C)you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body ^[a]and in your spirit, which are God’s.

² that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, ^(A)but for the will of God. ³ For we have spent enough of our past ^[a]lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles—when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries.
