²⁵ Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!^(A)

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,^(B) but in my sinful nature^[a] a slave to the law of sin.^(C)

¹⁷ For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh.^(A) They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever^[a] you want.^{(B) 18} But if you are led by the Spirit,^(C) you are not under the law.^(D)

¹⁹ The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality,^(E) impurity and debauchery; ²⁰ idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions ²¹ and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.^(F) I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.^(G)

²² But the fruit^(H) of the Spirit is love,^(I) joy, peace,^(J) forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness and self-control.^(K) Against such things there is no law.^{(L) 24} Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh^(M) with its passions and desires.^(N)

⁹ But he said to me, “My grace^(A) is sufficient for you, for my power^(B) is made perfect in weakness.^(C)”^(D) Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight^(E) in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships,^(F) in persecutions,^(G) in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.^(H)

⁵ you also, like living stones, are being built^(A) into a spiritual house^[a](B) to be a holy priesthood,^(C) offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.^(D)

¹⁷ And whatever you do,^(A) whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks^(B) to God the Father through him.

³ For it is we who are the circumcision,^(A) we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus,^(B) and who put no confidence in the flesh—

⁵⁷ But thanks be to God!^(A) He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.^(B)

¹⁵ I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.^{(A) 16} And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.^{(B) 17} As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.^{(C) 18} For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.^[a](D) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. ¹⁹ For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.^{(E) 20} Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.^(F)

²¹ So I find this law at work:^(G) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. ²² For in my inner being^(H) I delight in God’s law;^{(I) 23} but I see another law at work in me, waging war^(J) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin^(K) at work within me. ²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?^(L)
