Dead to Sin, Alive to God

6 What shall we say then? ^(A)Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

^16 (A)Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but ^(B)living as servants^[a] of God.

¹³ For you were called to freedom, brothers. ^(A)Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love ^(B)serve one another.

Slaves to Righteousness

¹⁵ What then? ^(A)Are we to sin ^(B)because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

⁵ But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict ^(A)wrath on us? (^(B)I speak in a human way.) ⁶ By no means! For then how could ^(C)God judge the world? ⁷ But if through my lie God's truth abounds to his glory, ^(D)why am I still being condemned as a sinner? ⁸ And why not ^(E)do evil that good may come?—as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just.

⁴ Or do you presume on ^(A)the riches of his kindness and ^(B)forbearance and ^(C)patience, ^(D)not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

²⁰ Now ^(A)the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, ^(B)grace abounded all the more, ²¹ so that, ^(C)as sin reigned in death, ^(D)grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁴ For ^(A)certain people ^(B)have crept in unnoticed ^(C)who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert ^(D)the grace of our God into sensuality and ^(E)deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

³¹ Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
