¹⁴ For ^(A)if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect,

⁹ and be found in Him, not having ^(A)my own righteousness, which is from the law, but ^(B)that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

¹⁸ For if ^(A)the inheritance is of the law, ^(B)it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Purpose of the Law

¹⁹ What purpose then does the law serve? ^(C)It was added because of transgressions, till the ^(D)Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ^(E)appointed through angels by the hand ^(F)of a mediator. ²⁰ Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, ^(G)but God is one.

²¹ Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. ²² But the Scripture has confined ^(H)all under sin, ^(I)that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. ²³ But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, ^[a]kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. ²⁴ Therefore ^(J)the law was our ^[b]tutor to bring us to Christ, ^(K)that we might be justified by faith.

²⁸ For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.

¹⁹ for ^(A)the law made nothing ^[a]perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of ^(B)a better hope, through which ^(C)we draw near to God.

²¹ I do not set aside the grace of God; for ^(A)if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died ^[a]in vain.”

¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith that it might be ^(A)according to grace, ^(B)so that the promise might be ^[a]sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, ^(C)who is the father of us all

³¹ Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.
