²⁶ So then, if those who are not circumcised keep the law’s requirements,^(A) will they not be regarded as though they were circumcised?^(B)

¹¹ In him you were also circumcised^(A) with a circumcision not performed by human hands. Your whole self ruled by the flesh^[a](B) was put off when you were circumcised by^[b] Christ,

¹⁸ Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised.^{(A) 19} Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing.^(B) Keeping God’s commands is what counts.

⁴ in order that the righteous requirement^(A) of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.^(B)

³ For it is we who are the circumcision,^(A) we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus,^(B) and who put no confidence in the flesh—

Jew and Gentile Reconciled Through Christ

¹¹ Therefore, remember that formerly^(A) you who are Gentiles by birth and called “uncircumcised” by those who call themselves “the circumcision” (which is done in the body by human hands)^(B)—

³⁰ since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.^(A)

³ and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”^(A)

⁴ Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: ⁵ “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision.^(B) I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. ⁶ I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. ⁷ Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’

⁸ “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’

⁹ “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’^{(C) 10} This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again.

¹¹ “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea^(D) stopped at the house where I was staying. ¹² The Spirit told^(E) me to have no hesitation about going with them.^(F) These six brothers^(G) also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. ¹³ He told us how he had seen an angel^(H) appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. ¹⁴ He will bring you a message^(I) through which you and all your household^(J) will be saved.’

¹⁵ “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on^(K) them as he had come on us at the beginning.^{(L) 16} Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with^[a] water,^(M) but you will be baptized with^[b] the Holy Spirit.’^{(N) 17} So if God gave them the same gift^(O) he gave us^(P) who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could stand in God’s way?”

¹⁸ When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, even to Gentiles God has granted repentance that leads to life.”^(Q)

³⁴ Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism^{(A) 35} but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.^(B)
