The Jews and the Law

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew and rely on the law and boast of your relation to God^(A)

²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by your transgression of the law?

God the Creator and Redeemer

⁹ “I know your affliction and your poverty, even though you are rich. I know the slander on the part of those who say that they are Jews and are not but are a synagogue of Satan.^(A)

³² Why not? Because they did not strive for it on the basis of faith but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,^(A)

⁴ They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises;^{(A) 5} to them belong the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, comes the Christ, who is over all, God blessed forever.^[a] Amen.^(B)

⁶ It is not as though the word of God has failed. For not all those descended from Israel are Israelites,^{(C) 7} and not all of Abraham’s children are his descendants, but “it is through Isaac that descendants shall be named for you.”^(D)

²⁸ For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision something external and physical.^{(A) 29} Rather, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not the written code. Such a person receives praise not from humans but from God.^(B)

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; your accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope.^(A)
