God's Judgment and the Law

¹² For all who have sinned ^(A)without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.

²¹ To ^(A)those outside the law I became ^(B)as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but ^(C)under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

¹⁰ For all who rely on works of the law are ^(A)under a curse; for it is written, ^(B)“Cursed be everyone who does not ^(C)abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”

¹⁴ For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, ^(A)by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. ¹⁵ They show that the work of the law is ^(B)written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them ^16 (C)on that day when, ^(D)according to my gospel, God judges ^(E)the secrets of men ^(F)by Christ Jesus.

¹⁶ yet we know that ^(A)a person is not justified^[a] by works of the law ^(B)but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, ^(C)because by works of the law no one will be justified.

¹⁷ But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found ^(D)to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! ¹⁸ For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. ¹⁹ For through the law I ^(E)died to the law, so that I might ^(F)live to God.

⁷ Now if ^(A)the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory ^(B)that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, ⁸ will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? ⁹ For if there was glory in ^(C)the ministry of condemnation, ^(D)the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.

The Law and Sin

⁷ What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, ^(A)I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if ^(B)the law had not said, “You shall not covet.” ⁸ But sin, ^(C)seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. ^(D)For apart from the law, sin lies dead. ⁹ I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died. ¹⁰ The very commandment ^(E)that promised life proved to be death to me. ¹¹ For sin, ^(F)seizing an opportunity through the commandment, ^(G)deceived me and through it killed me.

^30 (A)The times of ignorance ^(B)God overlooked, but ^(C)now he ^(D)commands all people everywhere to repent, ³¹ because he has fixed ^(E)a day on which ^(F)he will judge the world ^(G)in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and ^(H)of this he has given assurance to all ^(I)by raising him from the dead.”

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, ^(A)excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ They were haughty and ^(B)did an abomination before me. So ^(C)I removed them, when I saw it.
