^21 (A)It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble.^[a]

¹³ Therefore, ^(A)if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble.

Do Not Cause Another to Stumble

^13 (A)Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide ^(B)never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

The Example of Christ

15 ^(A)We who are strong ^(B)have an obligation to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ^2 (C)Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

Temptations to Sin

17 And he said to his disciples, ^(A)“Temptations to sin^[a] are ^(B)sure to come, but ^(C)woe to the one through whom they come! ^2 (D)It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.^[b]

Temptations to Sin

⁷ “Woe to the world for ^(A)temptations to sin!^{[a] (B)}For it is necessary that temptations come, ^(C)but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! ^8 (D)And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into ^(E)the eternal fire. ^9 (F)And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the ^(G)hell^[b] of fire.

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

¹⁰ “See that you do not despise ^(H)one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven ^(I)their angels always ^(J)see the face of my Father who is in heaven.^[c]

²³ But he turned and said to Peter, ^(A)“Get behind me, Satan! You are ^(B)a hindrance^[a] to me. For you ^(C)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

⁸ But you have turned aside from the way. ^(A)You have caused many to stumble by your instruction. You have corrupted ^(B)the covenant of Levi, says the Lord of hosts,

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of ^(A)Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, so that they might ^(B)eat food sacrificed to idols and ^(C)practice sexual immorality.
