⁷ What then? What the people of Israel sought so earnestly they did not obtain.^(A) The elect among them did, but the others were hardened,^(B)

⁴ The god^(A) of this age^(B) has blinded^(C) the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ,^(D) who is the image of God.^(E)

¹⁸ Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.^(A)

¹⁰ and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing.^(A) They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.^{(B) 11} For this reason God sends them^(C) a powerful delusion^(D) so that they will believe the lie^{(E) 12} and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.^(F)

Stand Firm

¹³ But we ought always to thank God for you,^(G) brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits^[a](H) to be saved^(I) through the sanctifying work of the Spirit^(J) and through belief in the truth. ¹⁴ He called you^(K) to this through our gospel,^(L) that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

All Israel Will Be Saved

²⁵ I do not want you to be ignorant^(A) of this mystery,^(B) brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited:^(C) Israel has experienced a hardening^(D) in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in,^(E)

⁵ So too, at the present time there is a remnant^(A) chosen by grace.^(B)

³¹ but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness,^(A) have not attained their goal.^{(B) 32} Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone.^(C)

¹⁴ But their minds were made dull,^(A) for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant^(B) is read.^(C) It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.

¹⁸ But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.
