⁶ And ^(A)if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. ^[a]But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

⁹ who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, ^(A)not according to our works, but ^(B)according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus ^(C)before time began,

^4 (A)You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; ^(B)you have fallen from grace.

²¹ I do not set aside the grace of God; for ^(A)if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died ^[a]in vain.”

¹⁰ But ^(A)by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, ^(B)yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

⁴ Now ^(A)to him who works, the wages are not counted ^[a]as grace but as debt.

⁵ But to him who ^(B)does not work but believes on Him who justifies ^(C)the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,

Boasting Excluded

^27 (A)Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith. ²⁸ Therefore we conclude ^(B)that a man is ^[a]justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.

^4 (A)“Do not think in your heart, after the Lord your God has cast them out before you, saying, ‘Because of my righteousness the Lord has brought me in to possess this land’; but it is ^(B)because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord is driving them out from before you. ^5 (C)It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God drives them out from before you, and that He may ^[a]fulfill the ^(D)word which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. ⁶ Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a ^(E)stiff-necked^[b] people.

^5 (A)not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through ^(B)the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
