⁴ But what does the divine response say to him? ^(A)“I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

^18 (A)Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, ^(B)and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

³ So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and ^(A)the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.

Relentless Judgment on Israel

^5 (A)(they have also built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings to Baal, ^(B)which I did not command or speak, nor did it come into My mind),

¹⁹ Now therefore, call to me all the ^(A)prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live.” But Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal. ²⁰ And Jehu said, ^[a]“Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal.” So they proclaimed it.

³¹ And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, ^(A)that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the ^(B)Sidonians; ^(C)and he went and served Baal and worshiped him.

¹³ They forsook the Lord ^(A)and served ^[a]Baal and the ^[b]Ashtoreths.
