¹⁸ do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.

¹² Therefore ^(A)let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

²⁰ That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you ^(A)stand fast through faith. So ^(B)do not become proud, but ^(C)fear.

¹⁹ So then you are no longer ^(A)strangers and aliens,^[a] but you are ^(B)fellow citizens with the saints and ^(C)members of the household of God, ^20 (D)built on the foundation of the ^(E)apostles and prophets, ^(F)Christ Jesus himself being ^(G)the cornerstone,

^27 (A)Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.

¹⁶ And ^(A)I have other sheep that are not of this fold. ^(B)I must bring them also, and ^(C)they will listen to my voice. So there will be ^(D)one flock, ^(E)one shepherd.

²⁹ And ^(A)if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, ^(B)heirs according to promise.

¹⁶ That is why it depends on faith, ^(A)in order that the promise may rest on grace and ^(B)be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, ^(C)who is the father of us all,

The Pharisee and the Tax Collector

⁹ He also told this parable to some ^(A)who trusted ^(B)in themselves that they were righteous, ^(C)and treated others with contempt: ¹⁰ “Two men ^(D)went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee, ^(E)standing by himself, prayed^{[a] (F)}thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.
