Ingrafted Branches

¹¹ Again I ask: Did they stumble so as to fall beyond recovery? Not at all!^(A) Rather, because of their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles^(B) to make Israel envious.^(C)

³¹ so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now^[a] receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you.

¹² But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles,^(A) how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first.^(A) Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.^{(B) 47} For this is what the Lord has commanded us:

⁴⁸ When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord;^(E) and all who were appointed for eternal life believed.

¹⁹ Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says,

¹⁴ in the hope that I may somehow arouse my own people to envy^(A) and save^(B) some of them.

²⁴ Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.^{(A) 25} They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: “The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said^(B) through Isaiah the prophet:

²⁸ “Therefore I want you to know that God’s salvation^(E) has been sent to the Gentiles,^(F) and they will listen!”

⁶ But when they opposed Paul and became abusive,^(A) he shook out his clothes in protest^(B) and said to them, “Your blood be on your own heads!^(C) I am innocent of it.^(D) From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”^(E)

The Remnant of Israel

11 I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means!^(A) I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham,^(B) from the tribe of Benjamin.^(C)
