⁸ But what does it say? “^(A)The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,

¹⁷ So faith comes from ^(A)hearing, and hearing by ^(B)the word ^[a]of Christ.

¹⁴ On the contrary, the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may ^[a]follow it.

²¹ if indeed you ^(A)have heard Him and have ^(B)been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,

⁴ But He answered and said, “It is written: ‘^(A)Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.’”

³⁸ Also you do not have ^(A)His word remaining in you, because you do not believe Him whom He ^(B)sent.

Testimony of the Scripture

^39 [a](C)You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is ^(D)those very Scriptures that testify about Me; ⁴⁰ and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
