Salvation Is for All

⁵ Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that “the person who does these things will live by them.”^(A)

⁵ You shall keep my statutes and my ordinances; by doing so one shall live: I am the Lord.^(A)

²⁹ And you warned them in order to turn them back to your law, yet they acted presumptuously and did not obey your commandments but sinned against your ordinances, by the observance of which a person shall live. They turned a stubborn shoulder and stiffened their neck and would not obey.

²¹ But the children rebelled against me; they did not follow my statutes and were not careful to observe my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live; they profaned my Sabbaths.

Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the wilderness.^(A)

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness; they did not observe my statutes but rejected my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live, and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned.

Then I thought I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make an end of them.^(A)

¹¹ I gave them my statutes and showed them my ordinances, by whose observance everyone shall live.^(A)

¹² But the law does not rest on faith; on the contrary, “Whoever does the works of the law^[a] will live by them.”^(A)

²⁷ He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind and your neighbor as yourself.”^{(A) 28} And he said to him, “You have given the right answer; do this, and you will live.”^(B)

¹⁰ and I died, and the very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.^(A)
