21 So I find it to be a law that, when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. 22 For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self,(A) 23 but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members.(B) 24 Wretched person that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God[a] through Jesus Christ our Lord!

So then, with my mind I am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

Life in the Spirit

Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.(C) For the law of the Spirit[b] of life in Christ Jesus has set you[c] free from the law of sin and of death.(D) For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and to deal with sin,[d] he condemned sin in the flesh,(E) so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.[e](F) For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit[f] set their minds on the things of the Spirit.[g](G) To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit[h] is life and peace.(H)

21 So I find this law at work:(A) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(B) I delight in God’s law;(C) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(D) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(E) at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?(F) 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!(G)

So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,(H) but in my sinful nature[a] a slave to the law of sin.(I)

Life Through the Spirit

Therefore, there is now no condemnation(J) for those who are in Christ Jesus,(K) because through Christ Jesus(L) the law of the Spirit who gives life(M) has set you[b] free(N) from the law of sin(O) and death. For what the law was powerless(P) to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[c](Q) God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh(R) to be a sin offering.[d](S) And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement(T) of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.(U)

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;(V) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.(W) The mind governed by the flesh is death,(X) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life(Y) and peace.
