Self-denial in behalf of Others

15 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of (A)those without strength, and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to (B)please his neighbor [a]for his good, to his (C)edification. For even (D)Christ did not please Himself, but as it is written: “(E)The taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on Me.”

  1. Romans 15:3 Psalm 69:9

For through (A)the grace given to me I say to everyone among you (B)not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to (C)each a measure of faith. For (D)just as we have many parts in one body and all [a]the body’s parts do not have the same function, so we, (E)who are many, are (F)one body in Christ, and individually parts of one another. However, since we have gifts that (G)differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to use them properly: if (H)prophecy, [b]in proportion to one’s faith; if [c](I)service, in the act of serving; or the one who (J)teaches, in the act of teaching; or the one who [d](K)exhorts, in the work of [e]exhortation; the one who gives, with [f](L)generosity; (M)the one who [g]is in leadership, with diligence; the one who shows mercy, with (N)cheerfulness.

[h](O)Love must be free of hypocrisy. (P)Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be (Q)devoted to one another in brotherly love; [i]give preference to one another (R)in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, (S)fervent in spirit, (T)serving the Lord; 12 (U)rejoicing in hope, (V)persevering in tribulation, (W)devoted to prayer, 13 (X)contributing to the needs of the [j]saints, [k](Y)practicing hospitality.

14 (Z)Bless those who persecute [l]you; bless and do not curse. 15 (AA)Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 (AB)Be of the same mind toward one another; (AC)do not be [m]haughty in mind, but [n]associate with the lowly. (AD)Do not be wise in your own estimation.

Humble Service in the Body of Christ

For by the grace given me(A) I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,(B) so in Christ we, though many, form one body,(C) and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts,(D) according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,(E) then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith;(F) if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;(G) if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;(H) if it is giving, then give generously;(I) if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Love in Action

Love must be sincere.(J) Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.(K) 10 Be devoted to one another in love.(L) Honor one another above yourselves.(M) 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor,(N) serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope,(O) patient in affliction,(P) faithful in prayer.(Q) 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need.(R) Practice hospitality.(S)

14 Bless those who persecute you;(T) bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.(U) 16 Live in harmony with one another.(V) Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.(W)
