Strafgericht über Ephraim
12 Aber die Männer von Ephraim versammelten sich und zogen nach Zaphon und sprachen zu Jephtah: Warum bist du wider die Kinder Ammon in den Streit gezogen und hast uns nicht gerufen, daß wir mit dir zögen? Wir wollen dein Haus samt dir mit Feuer verbrennen! 2 Jephtah sprach zu ihnen: Ich und mein Volk hatten einen schweren Streit mit den Kindern Ammon, und ich schrie zu euch, aber ihr halfet mir nicht aus ihrer Hand. 3 Als ich nun sah, daß bei euch keine Hilfe war, setzte ich mein Leben daran und zog hin wider die Kinder Ammon, und der Herr gab sie in meine Hand. Warum kommt ihr heute zu mir herauf, um wider mich zu streiten?
4 Und Jephtah versammelte alle Männer von Gilead und stritt wider Ephraim. Und die Männer von Gilead schlugen Ephraim, weil sie gesagt hatten: Ihr seid ephraimitische Flüchtlinge; Gilead liegt zwischen Ephraim und Manasse! 5 Und die Gileaditer besetzten die Furt des Jordan vor Ephraim. Wenn nun die flüchtenden Ephraimiter sprachen: Laß mich hinübergehen! so sprachen die Männer von Gilead: Bist du ein Ephraimiter? Wenn er dann antwortete: Nein! 6 so sprachen sie zu ihm: Sage doch: Schibbolet[a]! Sprach er alsdann „Sibbolet“, weil er es nicht recht aussprechen konnte, so fingen sie ihn und töteten ihn an der Furt des Jordan, so daß zu der Zeit von Ephraim zweiundvierzigtausend fielen.
Jephtah aber richtete Israel sechs Jahre lang. Dann starb Jephtah, der Gileaditer, und ward begraben in einer der Städte Gileads.
Die Richter Ibzan, Elon und Abdon
8 Nach ihm richtete Ibzan von Bethlehem das Volk Israel. 9 Der hatte dreißig Söhne und entließ dreißig Töchter aus seinem Haus und nahm seinen Söhnen dreißig Töchter von auswärts und richtete Israel sieben Jahre lang. 10 Darnach starb Ibzan und ward zu Bethlehem begraben. -
11 Nach ihm richtete Elon, ein Sebuloniter, das Volk Israel; der richtete Israel zehn Jahre lang. 12 Und Elon, der Sebuloniter, starb und ward begraben zu Ajalon im Lande Sebulon.
13 Nach ihm richtete Abdon, der Sohn Hillels, ein Piratoniter, das Volk Israel. 14 Der hatte vierzig Söhne und dreißig Enkel, die auf siebzig Eselsfüllen ritten; der richtete Israel acht Jahre lang. 15 Darnach starb Abdon, der Sohn Hillels, der Piratoniter, und ward begraben zu Piraton im Lande Ephraim auf dem Gebirge der Amalekiter.

12 Los hombres de Efraín se reunieron y cruzaron el Jordán hacia el norte[a], y dijeron a Jefté: ¿Por qué cruzaste a pelear contra los hijos de Amón sin llamarnos para que fuéramos contigo(A)? Quemaremos tu casa sobre ti. 2 Y Jefté les respondió: Yo y mi pueblo estábamos en gran contienda con los hijos de Amón, y cuando os llamé, no me librasteis de sus manos. 3 Viendo, pues, que no me ibais a librar, arriesgué mi vida[b](B) y crucé contra los hijos de Amón, y el Señor los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué, pues, habéis subido hoy a pelear contra mí? 4 Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad y peleó contra Efraín; y los hombres de Galaad derrotaron[c] a Efraín, porque estos decían: Sois fugitivos de Efraín, vosotros los galaaditas, en medio de Efraín y en medio de Manasés. 5 Y se apoderaron los galaaditas de los vados del Jordán(C) al lado opuesto de Efraín. Y aconteció que cuando alguno de los fugitivos de Efraín decía: Dejadme cruzar, los hombres de Galaad le decían: ¿Eres efrateo? Si él respondía: No, 6 entonces, le decían: Di, pues, la palabra Shibolet; pero él decía Sibolet, porque no podía pronunciarla correctamente[d]. Entonces le echaban mano y lo mataban junto a los vados del Jordán. Y cayeron en aquella ocasión cuarenta y dos mil de los de Efraín. 7 Jefté juzgó a Israel seis años. Y murió Jefté galaadita, y fue sepultado en una de las ciudades de Galaad.
Ibzán, Elón y Abdón, jueces de Israel
8 Después de Jefté[e] juzgó a Israel Ibzán de Belén. 9 Y tuvo treinta hijos y treinta hijas, a estas las casó[f] fuera de la familia, y trajo de afuera treinta hijas para sus hijos. Y juzgó a Israel siete años. 10 Y murió Ibzán, y fue sepultado en Belén.
11 Después de él juzgó a Israel Elón zabulonita; y juzgó a Israel diez años. 12 Y murió Elón zabulonita, y fue sepultado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.
13 Entonces Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, juzgó a Israel después de Elón[g]. 14 Y tuvo cuarenta hijos y treinta nietos que cabalgaban en setenta asnos. Y juzgó a Israel ocho años. 15 Y murió Abdón, hijo de Hilel piratonita, y fue sepultado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.

12 And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thine house upon thee with fire.
2 And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye delivered me not out of their hands.
3 And when I saw that ye delivered me not, I put my life in my hands, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and the Lord delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim: and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye Gileadites are fugitives of Ephraim among the Ephraimites, and among the Manassites.
5 And the Gileadites took the passages of Jordan before the Ephraimites: and it was so, that when those Ephraimites which were escaped said, Let me go over; that the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
6 Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.
7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, whom he sent abroad, and took in thirty daughters from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
10 Then died Ibzan, and was buried at Bethlehem.
11 And after him Elon, a Zebulonite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
12 And Elon the Zebulonite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the country of Zebulun.
13 And after him Abdon the son of Hillel, a Pirathonite, judged Israel.
14 And he had forty sons and thirty nephews, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
15 And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the mount of the Amalekites.
