The Fifth Seal: Martyrs

⁹ When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw ^(A)underneath the ^(B)altar the ^(C)souls of those who had been killed ^(D)because of the word of God, and because of the ^(E)testimony which they had maintained; ¹⁰ and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “^(F)How long, O ^[a](G)Lord, ^(H)holy and true, ^[b]will You refrain from ^(I)judging and avenging our blood on ^(J)those who live on the earth?” ¹¹ And a ^(K)white robe was given to each of them; and they were told that they were to ^(L)rest for a little while longer, ^(M)until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers and sisters who were to be killed even as they had been, was ^(N)completed also.

The Sixth Seal: Terror

¹² And I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great ^(O)earthquake; and the ^(P)sun became as black as ^(Q)sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; ¹³ and ^(R)the stars of the sky fell to the earth, ^(S)as a fig tree drops its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. ^14 (T)The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and ^(U)every mountain and island was removed from its place. ¹⁵ Then ^(V)the kings of the earth and the eminent people, and the commanders and the wealthy and the strong, and every slave and free person hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; ¹⁶ and they *^(W)said to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the ^[c]sight of Him ^(X)who sits on the throne, and from the ^(Y)wrath of the Lamb; ¹⁷ for ^(Z)the great day of Their wrath has come, and ^(AA)who is able to stand?”

A Multitude from the Tribulation

⁹ After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from ^(A)every nation and all the tribes, peoples, and languages, standing ^(B)before the throne and ^(C)before the Lamb, clothed in ^(D)white robes, and ^(E)palm branches were in their hands; ¹⁰ and they *cried out with a loud voice, saying,

¹¹ And all the angels were standing ^(H)around the throne and around ^(I)the elders and the ^(J)four living creatures; and they ^(K)fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, ¹² saying,

¹³ Then one of the elders ^(O)responded, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the ^(P)white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” ¹⁴ I ^[a]said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the ^(Q)great tribulation, and they have ^(R)washed their robes and made them ^(S)white in the ^(T)blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ For this reason they are ^(U)before the throne of God, and they ^(V)serve Him day and night in His ^[b](W)temple; and ^(X)He who sits on the throne will spread His ^(Y)tabernacle over them. ^16 (Z)They will no longer hunger nor thirst, nor will the sun ^[c]beat down on them, nor any scorching heat; ¹⁷ for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their ^(AA)shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the ^[d](AB)water of life; and ^(AC)God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

The Seventh Seal: Trumpets

8 When the Lamb broke the ^(A)seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour. ² And I saw ^(B)the seven angels who stand before God, and seven ^(C)trumpets were given to them.

^3 (D)Another angel came and stood at the ^(E)altar, holding a ^(F)golden censer; and much ^(G)incense was given to him, so that he might ^[a]add it to the ^(H)prayers of all the ^[b]saints on the ^(I)golden altar which was before the throne. ⁴ And ^(J)the smoke of the incense ascended from the angel’s hand with the prayers of the ^[c]saints before God. ⁵ Then the angel ^[d]took the ^[e]censer and ^(K)filled it with the fire of the altar, and ^(L)hurled it to the earth; and there were ^(M)peals of thunder and sounds, and flashes of lightning and an ^(N)earthquake.

^6 (O)And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound them.

⁷ The first sounded, and there was ^(P)hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled to the earth; and ^(Q)a third of the earth was burned up, and ^(R)a third of the ^(S)trees were burned up, and all the green ^(T)grass was burned up.

⁸ The second angel sounded, and something like a great ^(U)mountain burning with fire was hurled into the sea; and ^(V)a third of the ^(W)sea became blood, ⁹ and ^(X)a third of the creatures which were in the sea ^[f]and had life, died; and a third of the ^(Y)ships were destroyed.

¹⁰ The third angel sounded, and a great star ^(Z)fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a ^(AA)third of the rivers and on the ^(AB)springs of waters. ¹¹ The star is named Wormwood; and a ^(AC)third of the waters became ^(AD)wormwood, and many people died from the waters because they were made bitter.

¹² The fourth angel sounded, and a ^(AE)third of the ^(AF)sun, a third of the ^(AG)moon, and a ^(AH)third of the ^(AI)stars were struck, so that a ^(AJ)third of them would be darkened and the day would not shine for a ^(AK)third of it, and the night in the same way.

¹³ Then I looked, and I heard ^[g]an eagle flying in ^(AL)midheaven, saying with a loud voice, “^(AM)Woe, woe, woe to ^(AN)those who live on the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the ^(AO)three angels who are about to sound!”
