The Scroll and the Lamb
5 Then I saw in the right hand of the one seated on the throne a scroll written on the inside and on the back, sealed[a] with seven seals,(A) 2 and I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it. 4 And I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”(B)
6 Then I saw between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders a Lamb standing as if it had been slaughtered, with seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.(C) 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of the one who was seated on the throne. 8 When he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell before the Lamb, each holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.(D) 9 They sing a new song:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to break its seals,
for you were slaughtered and by your blood you ransomed for God
saints from[b] every tribe and language and people and nation;(E)
10 you have made them a kingdom and priests serving[c] our God,
and they will reign[d] on earth.”(F)
11 Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels surrounding the throne and the living creatures and the elders; they numbered myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands,(G) 12 singing with full voice,
“Worthy is the Lamb that was slaughtered
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea and all that is in them, singing,
“To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might
forever and ever!”(H)
14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

LʼAgnello e la pergamena
5 Poi vidi nella destra di colui che sedeva sul trono una pergamena arrotolata, scritta sia di dentro che di fuori, chiusa da sette sigilli. 2 E vidi un angelo potente che, a gran voce, faceva questa domanda: «Chi è degno di togliere i sigilli e di aprire la pergamena?» 3 Ma né in cielo, né sulla terra, né fra i morti vi era qualcuno che potesse aprire la pergamena e leggerla.
4 Allora scoppiai in un pianto dirotto, perché non si era trovato nessuno degno di aprirla, nessuno che potesse dirci che cosa contenesse.
5 Ma uno dei ventiquattro anziani mi disse: «Non piangere! Ecco, il Leone della tribù di Giuda, il Rampollo di Davide ha vinto la sua battaglia e si è dimostrato degno di togliere i sette sigilli e di aprire la pergamena».
6 Guardai, e allora fra il trono con le quattro creature viventi e gli anziani vidi un Agnello in piedi, che portava ancora i segni del suo sacrificio. Aveva sette corna e sette occhi, che rappresentano i sette spiriti di Dio che sono stati mandati in ogni parte del mondo. 7 LʼAgnello avanzò e prese la pergamena dalla destra di Dio che sedeva sul trono. 8 Mentre la prendeva le quattro creature viventi e i ventiquattro anziani si prostrarono davanti allʼAgnello. Ognuno di loro aveva unʼarpa e una coppa dʼoro piena di profumi, che sono le preghiere degli uomini di Dio. 9 Essi cantavano un nuovo canto, questo: «Tu sei degno di prendere la pergamena, di rompere i suoi sigilli e di aprirla, perché sei stato immolato e, con la tua morte, hai riscattato, per darli a Dio, uomini di ogni razza, lingua, popolo e nazione. 10 Tu ne hai fatto il Regno di Dio, i suoi sacerdoti; ed essi regneranno sulla terra».
11-12 Allora, nella mia visione, udii cantare a voce spiegata i numerosi angeli, che circondavano il trono, le quattro creature viventi e gli anziani: «LʼAgnello che è stato immolato», cantavano, «è degno di ricevere la potenza, la ricchezza, la saggezza, la forza, lʼonore, la gloria e le benedizioni!»
13 E tutte le creature, nel cielo, sulla terra, e perfino sotto la terra e nel mare, esclamavano: «A Dio, che siede sul trono, e allʼAgnello vadano la lode, lʼonore, la gloria e la potenza per i secoli eterni!» 14 E le quattro creature viventi continuavano a dire: «Amen», mentre i ventiquattro anziani si prostravano in adorazione.

5 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
6 And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
8 And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.
14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.

5 Next I saw in the right hand of the One sitting on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals; 2 and I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 But no one in heaven, on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or look inside it. 4 I cried and cried, because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or look inside it. 5 One of the elders said to me, “Don’t cry. Look, the Lion of the tribe of Y’hudah, the Root of David, has won the right to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
6 Then I saw standing there with the throne and the four living beings, in the circle of the elders, a Lamb that appeared to have been slaughtered. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the sevenfold Spirit of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of the One sitting on the throne. 8 When he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down in front of the Lamb. Each one held a harp and gold bowls filled with pieces of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people; 9 and they sang a new song,
“You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals;
because you were slaughtered;
at the cost of blood you ransomed for God
persons from every tribe, language, people and nation.
10 You made them into a kingdom for God to rule,
cohanim to serve him;
and they will rule over the earth.”
11 Then I looked, and I heard the sound of a vast number of angels — thousands and thousands, millions and millions! They were all around the throne, the living beings and the elders; 12 and they shouted out,
“Worthy is the slaughtered Lamb to receive
power, riches, wisdom, strength,
honor, glory and praise!”
13 And I heard every creature in heaven, on earth, under the earth and on the sea — yes, everything in them — saying,
“To the One sitting on the throne
and to the Lamb
belong praise, honor, glory and power
forever and ever!”
14 The four living beings said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshipped.
