²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?^(A)

¹² On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

⁴⁰ Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”^(A)

⁴¹ Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.^(B)

¹² Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,^{(A) 13} and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart will become proud and you will forget^(B) the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
