The New Heaven and the New Earth

21 Then I saw ^(A)a new heaven and a new earth, for ^(B)the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. ²And I saw ^(C)the holy city, ^(D)new Jerusalem, ^(E)coming down out of heaven from God, ^(F)prepared ^(G)as a bride adorned for her husband. ³And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, ^(H)the dwelling place^[a] of God is with man. He will ^(I)dwell with them, and they will be his people,^[b] and God himself will be with them as their God.^[c] ⁴^(J)He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and ^(K)death shall be no more, ^(L)neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Woe to the Oppressors

2 ^(A)Woe to those who devise wickedness
    and work evil ^(B)on their beds!
When the morning dawns, they perform it,
    because it is in the power of their hand.
²They covet fields and ^(C)seize them,
    and houses, and take them away;
they oppress a man and his house,
    a man and his inheritance.
³Therefore thus says the Lord:
behold, against ^(D)this family I am devising disaster,^[a]
    from which you cannot remove your necks,
and you ^(E)shall not walk haughtily,
    ^(F)for it will be a time of disaster.

Not Peace, but a Sword

³⁴^(D)“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. ^(E)I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵^(F)For I have come ^(G)to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶^(H)And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. ³⁷^(I)Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. ³⁸And ^(J)whoever does not take his cross and ^(K)follow me is not worthy of me. ³⁹^(L)Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Rewards

⁴⁰^(M)“Whoever receives you receives me, and ^(N)whoever receives me receives him who sent me. ⁴¹^(O)The one who receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and the one who receives a righteous person because he is a righteous person will receive a righteous person's reward. ⁴²And ^(P)whoever gives one of ^(Q)these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
