Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,

“Come away from her, my people.
    Do not take part in her sins,
    or you will be punished with her.
For her sins are piled as high as heaven,
    and God remembers her evil deeds.
Do to her as she has done to others.
    Double her penalty[a] for all her evil deeds.
She brewed a cup of terror for others,
    so brew twice as much[b] for her.
She glorified herself and lived in luxury,
    so match it now with torment and sorrow.
She boasted in her heart,
    ‘I am queen on my throne.
I am no helpless widow,
    and I have no reason to mourn.’
Therefore, these plagues will overtake her in a single day—
    death and mourning and famine.
She will be completely consumed by fire,
    for the Lord God who judges her is mighty.”

  2. 18:6b Or brew just as much.

Then I heard another voice from heaven saying,

(A)“Come out of her, my people,
    lest you take part in her sins,
lest you share in her plagues;
for (B)her sins are heaped high as heaven,
    and (C)God has remembered her iniquities.
(D)Pay her back as she herself has paid back others,
    and repay her (E)double for her deeds;
    mix a double portion for her (F)in the cup she mixed.
(G)As she glorified herself and lived in luxury,
    so give her a like measure of torment and mourning,
since in her heart she says,
    (H)‘I sit as a queen,
I am no widow,
    and mourning I shall never see.’
For this reason her plagues will come (I)in a single day,
    death and mourning and famine,
and (J)she will be burned up with fire;
    for (K)mighty is the Lord God who has judged her.”
