Then I heard another voice from heaven:

Come out of her, my people,
so that you will not share in her sins(A)
or receive any of her plagues.
For her sins are piled up[a] to heaven,(B)
and God has remembered her crimes.(C)
Pay her back the way she also paid,(D)
and double it according to her works.(E)
In the cup in which she mixed,(F)
mix a double portion for her.
As much as she glorified herself and indulged her sensual and excessive ways,
give her that much torment and grief.
For she says in her heart,
“I sit as a queen;
I am not a widow,
and I will never see grief.”(G)
For this reason her plagues will come in just one day—
death and grief and famine.(H)
She will be burned up with fire,(I)
because the Lord God who judges(J) her is mighty.(K)

  1. 18:5 Or sins have reached up

Then I heard another voice calling from heaven,

“Come away from her, my people.
Do not take part in her sins,
or you will be punished with her.
For her sins are piled as high as heaven,
and God remembers her evil deeds.
Do to her as she has done to others.
Double her penalty[a] for all her evil deeds.
She brewed a cup of terror for others,
so brew twice as much[b] for her.
She glorified herself and lived in luxury,
so match it now with torment and sorrow.
She boasted in her heart,
‘I am queen on my throne.
I am no helpless widow,
and I have no reason to mourn.’
Therefore, these plagues will overtake her in a single day—
    death and mourning and famine.
She will be completely consumed by fire,
for the Lord God who judges her is mighty.”
