17 ¶ And there came one of the seven angels who had the seven vials and talked with me, saying unto me, Come here; I will show unto thee the condemnation of the great whore that sits upon many waters,
2 with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman seated upon a scarlet-coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and of the filthiness of her fornication;
5 and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus; and when I saw her, I marvelled with great surprise.
7 ¶ And the angel said unto me, Why didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns.
8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not, and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and shall go into perdition; and those that dwell on the earth shall wonder (whose names are not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world) when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
9 And here is the meaning which has wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sits.
10 And they are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he comes, he must continue a short space.
11 And the beast that was, and is not, is also the eighth king, and is of the seven, and goes into perdition.
12 And the ten horns which thou hast seen are ten kings, which have not yet taken a kingdom, but shall take authority as kings one hour with the beast.
13 These have one mind and shall give their power and authority unto the beast.
14 ¶ These shall make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them; for he is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those that are with him are called and chosen and faithful.
15 And he said unto me, The waters which thou hast seen, where the whore sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.
16 And the ten horns which thou didst see upon the beast, these shall hate the whore and shall make her desolate and naked and shall eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
17 For God has put in their hearts to fulfil his will and to agree and give their kingdom unto the beast until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
18 And the woman which thou hast seen is that great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.

3 Na ka arahina ahau i roto i te Wairua e ia ki te koraha: a ka kite ahau i tetahi wahine e noho ana i runga i tetahi kararehe whero, kapi tonu i te ingoa kohukohu, e whitu ona mahunga, tekau nga haona.
4 Na, ko te kakahu o te wahine ra he mea papura, he mea whero, he mea whakapaipai ki te koura, ki te kohatu utu nui, ki te peara, he kapu koura hoki kei tona ringa ki tonu i te mea whakarihariha, i te poke hoki o tona moepuku:
5 I tona rae ano hoki tetahi ingoa tuhituhi rawa, KO TE MEA NGARO, KO PAPURONA NUI, KO TE WHAEA O NGA WAHINE KAIRAU, O NGA MEA WHAKARIHARIHA HOKI O TE AO.
6 I kite ano ahau i taua wahine nei e haurangi ana i nga toto o te hunga tapu, i nga toto hoki o nga kaiwhakaatu i a Ihu: a, no toku kitenga i a ia, nui atu te miharo i miharo ai ahau.
7 A ka mea mai te anahera ki ahau, He aha koe i miharo? maku e korero ki a koe taua mea ngaro, te wahine, me te kararehe hoki e waha ra i a ia, nona nei nga matenga e whitu me nga haona kotahi tekau.

9 Tenei te hinengaro whai mahara. Ko nga matenga e whitu he maunga, e whitu, kei runga te wahine i era e noho ana:
10 Na e whitu era kingi: tokorima kua hinga, kotahi tenei, ko tetahi kahore ano i tae noa mai; a ka tae mai ia, me noho ia, he wa iti nei.
11 Na ko te kararehe, ko te mea i mua ra, a kahore nei inaianei, he tuawaru ano ia, no nga tokowhitu ano hoki; a e riro ana ia ki te whakangaromanga.
12 Na, ko nga haona kotahi tekau i kite ra koe, kotahi tekau era kingi, kahore ano kia whiwhi noa ki tetahi rangatiratanga; heoi kotahi te haora e whiwhi tahi ai ratou ko te kararehe ki te mana, me te mea he kingi.
13 Kotahi tonu te whakaaro nui a enei, e hoatu ano e ratou to ratou kaha, to ratou mana ki te kararehe.
14 E whawhai ano enei ki te Reme, e taea ano ratou e te Reme: no te mea ko te Ariki ia o nga ariki, ko te Kingi o nga kingi: a ka taea ano hoki e ratou ko ona hoa, ko te hunga he mea karanga, he mea whiriwhiri, he hunga pono.
15 I mea mai ano ia ki ahau, Ko nga wai i kitea e koe i te nohoanga o te wahine kairau ra, ko nga huihuinga tangata ratou, ko nga mano, ko nga iwi, ko nga reo.
16 Na, ko nga haona kotahi tekau i kitea e koe, me te kararehe, e kino ano enei ki te wahine kairua, ka meinga ia e ratou kia moti rawa iho, kia noho tahanga, e kai ano ratou i ona kikokiko, e tahu hoki i a ia kia pau rawa i te ahi.
17 Kua hoatu hoki e te Atua ki o ratou ngakau kia whakarite i tana i pai ai, kia kotahi ano hoki o ratou whakaaro, kia hoatu hoki e ratou to ratou rangatiratanga ki te kararehe, kia rite ra ano nga kupu a te Atua.
18 Na, ko te wahine i kite na koe, ko te pai nui ia, kei a ia nei te kingitanga i runga i nga kingi o te ao.

17 Och en av de sju änglarna med de sju skålarna kom och talade med mig och sade: »Kom hit, så skall jag visa dig, huru den stora skökan får sin dom, hon som tronar vid stora vatten,
2 hon som jordens konungar hava bedrivit otukt med och av vilkens otukts vin jordens inbyggare hava druckit sig druckna.»
3 Sedan förde han mig i anden bort till en öken. Där såg jag en kvinna som satt på ett scharlakansrött vilddjur, fulltecknat med hädiska namn; och det hade sju huvuden och tio horn.
4 Och kvinnan var klädd i purpur och scharlakan och glänste av guld och ädla stenar och pärlor; och i sin hand hade hon en gyllene kalk, full av styggelser och av hennes otukts orenlighet.
5 Och på hennes panna var skrivet ett namn med hemlig betydelse: »Det stora Babylon, hon som är moder till skökorna och till styggelserna på jorden.»
6 Och jag såg kvinnan vara drucken av de heligas blod och av Jesu vittnens blod. Och jag förundrade mig storligen, när jag såg henne.
7 Och ängeln sade till mig: »Varför förundrar du dig? Jag skall säga dig hemligheten om kvinnan, och om vilddjuret som bär henne, och som har de sju huvudena och de tio hornen.
8 Vilddjuret som du har sett, det har varit, och är icke mer; men det skall stiga upp ur avgrunden, och det går sedan i fördärvet. Och de av jordens inbyggare, vilkas namn icke från världens begynnelse äro skrivna i livets bok, skola förundra sig, när de få se vilddjuret som har varit, och icke mer är, men dock skall komma. --
9 Här gäller det att äga ett förstånd med vishet. De sju huvudena äro sju berg, som kvinnan tronar på. De äro ock sju konungar;
10 fem av dem hava fallit, en är, och den återstående har ännu icke kommit, och när han kommer, skall han bliva kvar en liten tid.
11 Och vilddjuret som har varit, och icke mer är, det är självt den åttonde, och dock en av de sju, och det går i fördärvet.
12 Och de tio horn som du har sett, de äro tio konungar, som ännu icke hava kommit till konungavälde, men som för en kort tid, tillika med vilddjuret, få makt såsom konungar.
13 Dessa hava ett och samma sinne, och de giva sin makt och myndighet åt vilddjuret.
14 De skola giva sig i strid med Lammet; men Lammet jämte de kallade och utvalda och trogna som följa det, skall övervinna dem, ty Lammet är herrarnas herre och konungarnas konung.»
15 Och han sade ytterligare till mig: »Vattnen som du har sett, där varest skökan tronar, äro folk och människoskaror och folkslag och tungomål.
16 Och de tio horn, som du har sett, och vilddjuret, de skola hata skökan och göra henne utblottad och naken, och skola äta hennes kött och bränna upp henne i eld.
17 Ty Gud har ingivit dem i hjärtat att de skola utföra vad han har i sinnet, och att de alla skola handla i ett och samma sinne, och att de skola giva sitt välde åt vilddjuret, till dess Guds utsagor hava fullbordats.
18 Och kvinnan som du har sett är den stora staden, som har konungsligt välde över jordens konungar.»

Babylon, the Prostitute on the Beast
17 One of the seven angels(A) who had the seven bowls(B) came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment(C) of the great prostitute,(D) who sits by many waters.(E) 2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”(F)
3 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit(G) into a wilderness.(H) There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet(I) beast that was covered with blasphemous names(J) and had seven heads and ten horns.(K) 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls.(L) She held a golden cup(M) in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.(N) 5 The name written on her forehead was a mystery:(O)
6 I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people,(R) the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
When I saw her, I was greatly astonished. 7 Then the angel said to me: “Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery(S) of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.(T) 8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(U) and go to its destruction.(V) The inhabitants of the earth(W) whose names have not been written in the book of life(X) from the creation of the world will be astonished(Y) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.
9 “This calls for a mind with wisdom.(Z) The seven heads(AA) are seven hills on which the woman sits. 10 They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for only a little while. 11 The beast who once was, and now is not,(AB) is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.
12 “The ten horns(AC) you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour(AD) will receive authority as kings along with the beast. 13 They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.(AE) 14 They will wage war(AF) against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over(AG) them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings(AH)—and with him will be his called, chosen(AI) and faithful followers.”
15 Then the angel said to me, “The waters(AJ) you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.(AK) 16 The beast and the ten horns(AL) you saw will hate the prostitute.(AM) They will bring her to ruin(AN) and leave her naked;(AO) they will eat her flesh(AP) and burn her with fire.(AQ) 17 For God has put it into their hearts(AR) to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to hand over to the beast their royal authority,(AS) until God’s words are fulfilled.(AT) 18 The woman you saw is the great city(AU) that rules over the kings of the earth.”
