¹² It exercised all the authority^(A) of the first beast on its behalf,^(B) and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast,^(C) whose fatal wound had been healed.^{(D) 13} And it performed great signs,^(E) even causing fire to come down from heaven^(F) to the earth in full view of the people.

³⁸ Then the fire^(A) of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench.
