The Beast from the Earth

¹¹ Then I saw another beast ^(A)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, ^(B)whose deadly wound was healed. ^13 (C)He performs great signs, ^(D)so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. ^14 (E)And he deceives ^[a]those who dwell on the earth ^(F)by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword ^(G)and lived. ¹⁵ He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak ^(H)and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. ¹⁶ He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, ^(I)to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that no one may buy or sell except one who has ^[b]the mark or ^(J)the name of the beast, ^(K)or the number of his name.

⁹ Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, ^(A)“If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his ^(B)mark on his forehead or on his hand, ¹⁰ he himself ^(C)shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is ^(D)poured out full strength into ^(E)the cup of His indignation. ^(F)He shall be tormented with ^(G)fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. ¹¹ And ^(H)the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

^12 (I)Here is the ^[a]patience of the saints; ^(J)here^[b] are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Healing on the Sabbath^(A)

^9 (B)Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. ¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, ^(C)“Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.

¹¹ Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? ¹² Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” ¹³ Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. ¹⁴ Then ^(D)the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
